    Have the ZEISS s3 4-25 and it’s a great scope, but not overly forgiving in the eye box. The 6-36 seems better in that area to me. For the OP, I would look for a used S&B 5-25. Often found here used for 2100-2200. Hensold and S&B 4-16x are also great and in your budget if you are ok with 16x

    Hunting Rifle: 7mm Rem Mag or 7mm SAUM?

    I think the 7 saum is a great, and liked the one I had. But I would definitely go with the rem mag now. I don’t like dealing with the head aches associated with obsolete cartridges. Having a long action in a hunting rifle is fine, imo.

    Factory “match” ammo that is consistent

    I have tried quite a few lots of hornady match 308 and 6.5 recently that had an es of well over 100 fps And some Berger 6.5 that was almost 100 fps This may be ok for paper at 100yds but that’s about it. Of the stuff I have been able to get my hands on only FGMM has been consistent.

    Barrel Profile: Heavy for Hunters

    On a sporter/hunting type rifle, going to heavy on the barrel can make the gun nose heavy and kind of a pita to carry and shoot. If the rifle had a good balance with the factory barrel I wouldn’t go much bigger. Same thought in the optic. A 2lb scope mounted 2”+ over the bore on a light rifle...

    Beam scale for small charges

    Looking for recommendations on a non electric scale that is accurate on small weights ( 2 grains ). My 505 has been great for larger weights but seems to struggle with 1-2 g charges.

    Appreciate all the info here by brains smarter than mine. An FYI for anyone worried about doing these processes safely, many manufacturers will clean your can for a nominal fee. The cleaning process shouldn’t scare anyone away from can ownership or use.

    Has anyone tried the 8.6 BLK in an at or aw ? Thinking of getting a dedicated subsonic barrel for my AT-X. I know you can load 308 to subsonic speeds, but it seems less than ideal with currently available powders. The 300 BO would be ideal for me, but I doubt I will ever find a 223 bolt.

    I am familiar with the vortex, but haven’t had good luck with their entry level optics on firearms with stout recoil, or anything else for that matter. I will check out the leupold.

    I like the 17 wsm, but would probably choose a 17 hornet or 17 hmr personally. Unfortunately it seems like the wsm is in a downward spiral. I really hope it gets revived but wouldn’t count in it.
