Any suggestions on locating a durable fixed 1x scope ? Something like the g7 Nightforce from a few years back would be ideal.
It looks like vortex briefly made a crossfire 1x but those are hard to find and I would really like something a bit more robust.

Are guys finding the 223 conversions to offer much advantage over moderate loads in a 22/6 br, dasher, etc ?

If it was mine, I should shorten the headspace a little and try again. Good chance that will solve the issue. You could also remove your extractor and chamber a “ dud “ round. See if it is snug in the chamber or loose.
If being packable ( ish ) matters, you are right to look past the X frame. Great to shoot but not made to pack.
The 480 ruger would fit the bill nicely but with the scarcity of ammo and components I would be reluctant to buy one.

I have never seen that much shift even when swapping barrels on a quality rifle.
