    M40 Build Guide

Rob is sending me another one... I have a quite a number of hours in this one having relieved it, re-inletted it, pillar and bedded it. On a good note, took the rifle out today. Took it through a break in. Shot the following: 1. Hornady 168, loaded with 41.5 grains 4895, 2.81 col. Shot sub...

Yeah, alot of problems with getting this stock to fit. I've got the receive down a bit lower now, but the floor plate cut out was about 1/16" off to the left, and the fore end/barrel channel is a bit off. Been sanding and carving for days, had to pillar bed.

Yeah, got 1/2 dozen canvas slings from my Garands. Also have a black satin gen2. Need to order swivels. Just installed pillars last night and bedded it this am. I actually have a pretty good repop sling I bought at LRB the last time I was there. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

Pillar bedding it. That stock needed a lot of work. Barrel channel had ridges, whole thing had to be contoured. Holes were off too. Trigger guard area. Not a bad stock, though.

Knocked off the cheap looking texture paint, polished out the aluminum (it's a very cheap alloy, mind you) and anodized it black (as best to could...it's really, really a garbage alloy) and polished with beeswax/lanolin. It went into the sulfuric acid electrolyte shiny, but all the impure...

Retro scopes for a vintage build... M40 clone boomstick

It's about $100. For a beginner, it's good, but I already know about 75% of the content. It did fill in a number of "empty spaces" for me, with regards to how to break glue bonds, fix lenses, adjust parallex, etc. I have a bunch of content I want to ADD to it on some tricks I've come up with...

I bought a new production aluminum trigger guard/floor plate was bead blasted and painted black. Stripped it down yesterday and polished. Looks like brushed steel now. I'm going to anodize it a nice smooth, semigloss black. The barrel and receiver look an almost zinc parked. This is a...

    M40 Build Guide

My buttplate was the slighest bit too narrow. I wanted to freshly stand the stock a bit, so now it's a perfect fit. Curvature a tiny bit off, but screwing it down should more than take care of that. I found getting my action to fit right a bit of a pain. There are high points all over, and my...

Are the receiver screws and internal mag of the ADL compatible with the BDL? It seems the magazine is too long and the screws are too short.

Got my stock today. Worth the wait. Nice piece of wood, needs some fine tuning. I'm not going to bother with the V block, but just do a bedding job on the stock.

Are the M40 versions parkerized or blued? If parked, zinc or manganese?

Just bought a 722 base... I don't think you'll get them for $15 or $20. Mine bid up to $60. My plans are exactly as you lay them out. I also got correct looking rings. I'm going to Navy Jelly off all the bluing and park both the rings and base. Still waiting on my stock.... Silver Hill has...

There are a couple of different knurled knob types. If the power ring only has a small screw that locks it into the erector zoom sleeve. you have to drill and tap it for the large knurled post or replace the set screw with a set screw/ small post version from a later scope. The large knurled...

Retro scopes for a vintage build... M40 clone boomstick

Redfield won't reissue the M40 scope that looks right. The current one is horrible. It looks like Leatherwood delayed their repop scope... again. It looks really good, outside of the turret housing being marked wrong. I'm interested to see those just to tear it open and see what improvements...
