Converting a commercial crosshair Redfield to an M40 accurange Redfield

Making an accurange reticle... (see my template under the brass ring?) I "tack" it with CYA, and then use marine epoxy.

Converting a commercial crosshair Redfield to an M40 accurange Redfield

Have an interesting project I agreed to do for a forum member. I'm anodizing one of his Redfield gen 1 accurange scopes, and the other commercial gen 1 standard crosswire scope is getting "converted" to an accurange. This means building up the stadia wires on a standard crosswire reticle and...

I use crushed carbon; Expo markers; colored chalk... really anything I have that will "rub off" and show occlusions/contact. I didn't do any "refitting". Just fitting. ;)

Few folks asked about the stock finish. As follows: 1A. A lot of coats of Real Milk Paint Company Dark Raw Tung Oil (DRTO) First 3 applied with 0000 steel wool. After sanding the stock (I used 200 and 220 grit), soak up the steel wool with the dark oil and apply it heavily. Let it sit 10...

CMP has repliac M-82 Scopes and Mounts

I don't know. The ORIGINAL M73 (Gibbs put out a 2nd generation) on the Gibbs 1903A4s were HORRIBLE. I mean, it was for looks only. If you actually looked through it you would swear you were looking through a NERF scope with plastic lenses. They were not usable.

Please... Don't get me started. I did get a stock. Hours and hours of sanding, pillar bedded it, and it's a bit off for being sold as a "95% inletted stock". I would say I got a 75% inletted stock. But, the forend drifts to the left. Can't take anymore off without it being noticeable, so I...

If it's Hilux, it's Chinese. But, their scopes are built well. Not typical glued together junk.

    M40 Build Guide

Guys, I think I've mentioned this a few times. Different parts on the scope are made with different aluminum alloys, and each of these alloys have distinct anodic layers that build up. These different layers take up dye differently, And the color breaks down differently, hence the color...

Anybody want a genuine USMC 10X sniper scope.

I remember that. I was one of the lucky ones. I had multiple instances open and would just keep clicking back and forth until one hit without the error. Thank goodness the bayonet sale went a bit better.

Actually, according to Senichs book, the floor plate metal on the M40 is aluminum, despite claims to it being steel. Excellent book. Answers a ton a questions.

If those were anodized green, there is no gloss black undercoat. When you anodize, you need bare, degreased, desmutted aluminum. You can't ano over existing ano. It's a result of the dyes they used back then. It would be great to know what they used. The problem is the dyes have come such...

If anyone is interested..... Sarco and Numrich have the Remington 513T swivels for $10 a piece. Wichita Arms has the Wichitas for $25 + $5 shipping a piece. Just fill out the contact form on the website and Tim McNally will get back to you. I think Iron Brigade charges substantially more for...

I bought butt plate screws from Brownells. I also got slot headed receiver screws too. Had to cut them down and reblue them.
