    USS Connecticut

Not the USS Connecticut, but her bigger sister, USS Alaska, returning home a few days ago, after defending our freedom and world peace. What a beautiful boat, even with all the weathering and fatigue from months in the open seas. Welcome Home!

    USS Connecticut

Damn enemies, foreign and domestic. Imagine how much air time this would be getting if these traitors were Trump Supporters, or even Republican-leaning. The entire "Right-wing terrorism" narrative would be exploding again. Instead, given traitors' political leanings, the media is crickets...

    USS Connecticut

So it sounds like these freedom haters were busted before any secrets got out... ??? And they tried to sell out their country and her security for a meaningless $100k??? Kudos to the guys that took them down.

    USS Connecticut

Note the AO: South China Sea. There are so many boats underwater there right now that the Connecticut probably bumped into another sub. Damn, this is a scary situation that China has created. Let's hope the next accident is as favorable an outcome as this one was.

    Axes

yes the x27 is a great tool. I have one and it splits everything, even the toughest twisted black locust. Of course, the user is supplying the energy, meaning its a great workout like @Redmanss said above.

    Axes

yeah, do your back a favor and get a Peavy pole or cant hook. I like (love) Logrite for either, but a Chinese-made one will do the trick if you are doing light duties. I do a good bit of logging/felling/bucking/sliding/whatever you call it. I have a lot of axes but they all collect dust and...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

And our friends at Raytheon and Northrop announced they successfully fired a hypersonic from an airplane a few days ago: https://www.rtx.com/news/news-center/2021/09/27/raytheon-missiles-defense-northrop-grumman-successfully-test-fire-hypersonic-w Not as much public details as the Russian...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

Roger (y) I chose my words poorly. What I meant to say was a Block V Virginia looks like it has a similar mission capability as a Ohio-class SSGN, as you correctly cite. Those SSGNs carry all those cruise missiles, very useful in a non-nuclear fight, but they are getting old. It sounds like...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

Decent article here https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2021/09/the-5-main-options-for-australias-aukus-nuclear-submarine-deal/ That Block V VA sounds more like a boomer than an attack sub - 40 missiles in the VLS. The King's hypersonic missiles sounds fierce too. Let's get that operational...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

This is what we, as concerned Americans and tax payers, need to know. We want peace and we want peace to be affordable. Get us and our closest allies the best weapons to secure a viable deterrence. On the diplomatic front, I'm heartened by the reaction of many important allies in the...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

@NukeMMC I'm not a submariner or even navy guy, but an old ground pounder/light fighter. My interest in these things is as concerned American and tax payer. My understanding was a VLS offers faster firing times, allowing a sub to 'shot its load' than 'rapidly exfil' into the murky depths, as...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

Yes, I agree and this is why I hope the Aussie boats will be Virginia hulls and not Astute. Astute's seem like they are updated Seawolf designs, whereas the Virginia's have the land attack role that would be a nice capability vs PRC. I don't see these Aussie boats escorting Carrier strike...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

It sounds like this is a political effort to influence the Aussies into building the subs here in US and/or UK, with existing naval yard capabilities, rather than re-inventing the wheel in Australia. See @308pirate comments above. And the quote from the video commenter: "they could have a...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

This source might be better: https://www.intechopen.com/chapters/19667 This source cites the following about the S9G reactor (I bolded the key sections) 3.10. S9G high energy density core The S9G is a PWR built by General Electric with increased energy density, and new plant components...

Subs to Aussies - Sound off on thoughts?

Just looked up the VA-class sub on Wikipedia: S9G nuclear reactor, designed by GE like you said, producing 280,000 of shaft horsepower!!! Gosh darn is that right?, that is a lot of power.
