New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Given that, and all the excellent info in other replies I think you'll be happy with a Savage. My experience echoes that of others, including those little groups...
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Only thing to add to all these great posts is that after owning a bunch of presses, I wish I had acquired a Redding T-7 turret press years ago.
Those are good recommendations! I find Center X to be the sweet spot between price and performance, but I do have a rifle that really like SK Rifle Match too.
Especially if you can find a early Performance Center model. Because they are not in favor with the Kool Kids they can be had for a reasonable price and are great shooters. the early PC guns had a tremendous amount of care and hand fitting.
ALSO, for sure spend time over on the 1911 Addicts...
I have the March 3-24x42 with the FMA-2 reticle on my 6.5x284 hunting rig. I really like its size/weight on a practical hunting rig. Used to take a nice bull elk in New Mexcio a few years ago--only a 460 yard shot but it did it's job and I like mine.
You might look at a Used Pentax PF80 ED with the 20-60x eyepiece. They can be had for less than $1,000 and rival the big names. Back in the day, there were the top rated 80mm spotter by betterviewdesired, which was a birder website but did excellent optics reviews.
I find that higher rings allow my eye to center more naturally behind the scope because my cheek weld is lower. If the scope were lower my check weld would more towards my cheekbone vs. my jaw. Might be unique to my melon geometry....
