Rifle Scopes What scope for a post-war Savage 99?

I believe the Plainsman is 7/8” tube, but I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. The old Weavers made in El Paso, TX had all brass internals if I remember and were made very well. I’d put a fixed 2.5x or 4x Weaver on if it were me, most likely 4x since I’m out west. The Model 99 is an...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Sig Sauer P226 Legion 9mm

Dead Air has made a very good reputation for themselves, if I were shopping for a pistol can that’s where I’d look.

Rifle Scopes Need help choosing a LVPO

Razor is the right choice. I’d get the E version, personally. The standard Gen II is heavy and weight matters to me, it doesn’t to some.

Opinions for multiple “rack grade” Ar purchase

I do agree with you. I’ll freely admit that my attachment to the TDP is based on a judgement call (emotion, when it comes down to it) rather than empirical evidence. There’s evidence showing that High Pressure Testing bolts leads to bolt lug failure at a lower round count than simply mag...

Opinions for multiple “rack grade” Ar purchase

I strongly recommend the Colt. Look around the used market, I see LE6920s for 600-650 regularly. I suggest swapping out the barrel for the Colt 14.5 SOCOM version. Accuracy tests done by MOLON show it to be one of the most accurate chrome-lined barrels on the market. Just silver solder the FH...

Updated; Lets keep going with this. Is there a better power than 8208 for what I'm trying to do?

Here are some selected photos I quickly pulled off the net that some may find enlightening. Notice the differences in neck length (distance between impact and serious damage) between bullet designs. With that in mind, here is the 50gr Black Hills load. Expansion velocity floor is like...

VPN which one is the best value and actually works?

I’ve had constant connection issues with PIA on iOS over the last 18 months. It works 90% (correction: 97% of the time, that 3% is just fucking annoying) of the time. Currently using NordVPN, which seems to be better but I’ve only been using it for a few weeks. Both have issues with GMail...

Updated; Lets keep going with this. Is there a better power than 8208 for what I'm trying to do?

Out of stock when I checked earlier this week, unfortunately. It pops up under the non-FBI SKU# XM556SBCT3 as well as the FBI contract SKU# XM556FBIT3 with various ammo sellers, just have to keep an eye open for it.

Updated; Lets keep going with this. Is there a better power than 8208 for what I'm trying to do?

The 73gr ELD shoots fantastic, but the gel tests I’ve seen haven’t been great, doesn’t seem to meet FBI penetration specs. Still a great bullet IMO, just not as awesome as it could be. That’s the one I’d use for handloading if I went with a bonded bullet. Just a hint... look at M855...

Updated; Lets keep going with this. Is there a better power than 8208 for what I'm trying to do?

Just a thought: Black Hills makes a 5.56 50gr Optimized load that’s a slightly tougher TSX bullet, nasty out of an SBR, taking the lighter/faster advanced bullet concept further than any factory load I know of. You could try loading a 50-55gr TTSX hot and that would be titties out of a 11.5”...

Updated; Lets keep going with this. Is there a better power than 8208 for what I'm trying to do?

Lots of expanding/fragmenting .223 bullets, not all meet FBI penetration specs. If you want to use the 77gr custom comp, 8208 or TAC is it, and they give very similar velocities in my experience. You have two options. 1) Go with what you have. 2) Go with a lighter bullet (faster) with lower...

    Greatest pre ~1962 SMG

It seems like the Sten, Sterling, MP5 and Colt 9mm dominate these discussions, what’s the hive mind’s opinion on the Uzi? Never hear too much about it, but the Secret Service used them for a while. Folding stock, open bolt, heavy, quiet with a can from what I’ve read. Thoughts?

New to PRS is the Ruger RPR a good first gun?

I have a pretty heavily modded 308 RPR with maybe 1500rds through it, shooting partner has maybe the same amount through a 6.5 Creed. I’d recommend a different rifle, (T3x) unless you want an inexpensive folder. 1) Finish is poor, prone to rust. Strip it down and paint it. 2) Factory stock is...

    .30-06

Initial pressure testing with RL-26. No chrono data today unfortunately. Chamber is PTG 30-06 National Match, .340 neck, .073 FB, 1’-30. Brand new barrel. Lapua brass, virgin, CCI 200, went from 59.0gr to 62gr in 0.5gr increments. 208gr ELD @ 62.0gr, 0.020 off 215gr hybrid @ 62.0gr, 0.010...

    308, H4895, Bullet Recommendations

Check out the 175gr RDF. I’m starting load workup on it this weekend hopefully with 4064, heard good things about it. I went with them over the 178 eld because they were cheaper, but have a similar BC.

    Training Courses confused

In my experience, only cock gobblers refer to a bolt gun with a scope as a ‘sniper rifle’. In my experience, dudes with creds share their creds confidentially with guys of similar background/knowledge base (Thesis’ email). In my experience, cocksuckers who lawyer up immediately when called...

    OAL Questions

Yup, need to be ‘super technical’ now. Get a reloading manual ASAP. First off, you need a comparator for your micrometer. Bullets vary a bit in length around the tip so a few thousandths of variation is normal. As 308pirate said, you need to know distance to lands. Look up how to find it and...

Hunting & Fishing Need a new hunting rifle

Check the reloading section. Most classic hunting bullets have long bearing surfaces which limit speed. Combine this with SAMMI pressure for the 30-06 being 60k psi (old 1903’s being the reason I think?), as opposed to 30-06 based cartridges like 270win being 65k, and the reloading manuals are a...

Rifle Scopes Kahles K318i vs K525i

I went k318i due to FOV on a crossover rifle, I’ve popped moving coyotes at <25y when calling so I’m very aware of that stat. Very important in my opinion on a hunting rifle. That’s totally worth the cost of a little extra on the top end to me that I doubt I’d use anyways. It’s not apples to...
