Rifle Scopes Advice on very durable Optic.

My question is, how can a S&B not be good at 10x and then be good at 20x? That sounds like pure crap to me.

I wonder how many times he gently dragged it across his barracks room carpet with paracord to get the finish worn on the turrets like that.

Interesting, that looks just like a NXS 2.5-10x24. Oh wait... it is.

Rifle Scopes Advice on very durable Optic.

I know MontanaMarine has shot the 208gr Amax to roughly that distance, but he’s using a bolt gun and moly at ~4K ft . Definitely at the extreme ragged edge of 308 capabilities in perfect conditions. My limited experience with non-AR semis has not great in the accuracy department.

So with that said: Budget option: Nightforce NXS Gucci option: S&B Ultra Short Hipster option: Steiner M5xi I’m a millenial snowflake; my gear has to reflect my unique and special nature, therefore I use the M5.

Nightforce has their reputation for a reason. I have a 2.5-10x24 NXS that I do everything with and I love it. Don’t own a S&B... yet. If it doesn’t hold up I dunno what to tell you except sell the SCAR. Steiner M series might do it for you. I’m happy with my M5, recommend buying one used...

Gunsmithing What lube are you guys running?

Used to use a lot of Slip 2000, really good stuff. Prefer WD-40 specialist grease with calcium sulfonate base, especially suppressed.

Monthly Sporting Rifle match RATON NM

Signed the petition. It’s great to see so many other people in the area fighting to keep these new shooting sports alive.

Suppressors Done it all, AR still filthy when suppressed

I used to use Slip 2000 and CLP (nothing wrong with them) but I really think grease (specifically calcium sulfinate) is the way to go. The AR15/M4 is an unsealed machine that slides, no different than parts on a hay baler or a dozer that are greased. Calcium Sulfonate is a food-grade base...

    Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

Gents, I need some input. Was shooting some German surplus that did surprisingly well (1.2in 10 shot groups) but had ~40% light primer strikes (lifted bolt to reset and fired the second go), ammo runs well in an M1A. RPR runs just dandy with handloads using BR2s, but this bugs me. Does...

Suppressors Done it all, AR still filthy when suppressed

I do NOT recommend opening up the gas block. He has too much gas in a carbine gas system in that barrel length. OP, you can always grind the weld and pull out the pin on the flash hider, not a big deal really. I’d personally do an adjustable gas block or a new barrel, although I think you...

Suppressors Done it all, AR still filthy when suppressed

I have a 16” midlength BCM with H-buffer that I run with or without a can. Dirty with a can, puts all kinds of crap into the mag but I’ve never had failures. Out of curiosity, what do you use for lube? I used to use slip2000 (it was fine) and have switched to a calcium sulfonate grease after...

    Suppressors Another which can

I’m not a huge fan of direct thread, I’ve shot the Ti side by side with an Ultra 9 and I really like (strongly prefer) the threaded brake/flash hider. The geometry of a taper mount securely locks the can on, more secure than direct thread. It’s really just peace of mind, since if you tighten...

    Suppressors Another which can

TBAC is king for bolt guns, undoubtly. Running it on a 10.5 AR, I vote Sandman S. Mount on the DA is great. The Sandmans are heavy, which is why I vote S over the L. Plus, a I prefer a 7in over 9in can on a shorty AR. I’ve run the S on 308 and 6.5 Creed bolt guns as well as ARs and while...

Hunting & Fishing What to look for on maps?

This man is spot on. Take a step/wait a step-style still hunting works pretty much everywhere. I shot a buck when I was a kid at ~30 feet just going for a slow walk in timber, 1/2 mike from camp. Pinch points are money wherever you are, I hunt out west and there’s more glassing and moving but...

Leupold Tiogas, trade up or keep

I have a pair of Leupold Cascades that I’ve beat to the point where the focus isn’t dialing and the strap attachments are broken off. As I understand it, Leupold replaces instead of fixing this grade of binos. From the research I’ve done, Leupold replaces them with the Tioga HD. Now the...

    Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

I stand corrected then, I must have read speculation on the 223 version pre-release and stored it away as fact. $808.... that’s not bad at all. If I remember right, Ruger doesn’t sell replacement bolts? If that’s true, swapping calibers down the road might be tough.

Personally, I’d get a tikka if I wanted something tactical, and put it in a folding chassis (KRG) when funds were available. I like my RPR, but it’s a beater. Fit and finish is much nicer on the Tikka. But hey, my advice is worth what you paid for it.

I wouldn’t get it based on the magazine COAL limitation. If I’m shooting a bolt 223, I want lots of space to seat into the lands and run 80s.

    Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

I want to say 9.6gr? of trailboss under a 190 custom comp, LC brass and a BR2. Not sure on the weight, I want to put an XLR stock on it soon which will drop a few oz, plus when the barrel is toast a 16” Proof in 6.5x47 will probably get screwed on. Just want to add, I personally hate...
