Anyone used Utah Rifles in Pleasant Grove?

I haven't heard of them either. Who is the guy 40 minutes south?

Need muzzle brake sugestions- trying to solve a problem

I have a 1.250" 5 port brake that you can turn down .050". They are 60.00 shipped. There is a video of a guy shooting a .300RUM with that brake on my website. Video's

Gunsmithing 300 norma vs 300 hulk

I have a .30-.338 Norma Imp 35* and with a 30" Bartlein barrel it does 3075fps with 230 Bergers and VV N-570. I think with R-33 it will go 3150+fps but I haven't tried it yet. Mine has the 338NM shoulder dimension with a 35* shoulder and is throated kind of between perfect for 215's and 230's...

375 Lapua Imp or 375 Norma

I'll probably do a .375-338 Norma Imp soon. I have a 30-338 Norma Imp. now and a couple 375 barrels in the safe along with a TAC338 and Defiance Lapua action. I just need a reamer and dies.

Gunsmithing Lathe that can machine a 16" barrel in the headstock?

PM1340GT Gunsmith's High Precision Metal Lathe That's the shortest one I know of.

    Gunsmithing Let's talk Credit Cards

Your also not likely to get 1.5% if the card isn't swiped and if it's a rewards card. I'd imagine a lot of smiths here don't ever meet their customers face to face to run their card. In my business I have a card in hand less than 1% of the time so I pay roughly 3%.

Big 30 or 33 cal for build?

For 800yd elk hunting you dont need a Edge. You need to get well past 1000yds to see the benefit of the 338's IMO. A 300RUM will shoot a 230 Berger 3100fps and a Edge shoots 300's 2820fps (at least mine does). The 300RUM is doing 2130fps with 2320lbs of energy at sea level and the 338 Edge is...

Big 30 or 33 cal for build?

No one knows what the brass quality is like because only a handful of people have it. Generally necking cases up is extremely easy. I would probably go to 7mm first and then to .30 and I would use a die with a good expander ball like a Lee or Hornady. It does have a nice sharp shoulder to limit...

Gunsmithing Ballpark me a $$ for simple barrel swap?

I'm with KE. Probably 75% of Remington barrels swap and headspace correctly as long as you don't care where the caliber designation is. If it's off it won't be much. The timing of the brake will require a lathe but it's pretty quick too. The whole job could be as quick as 15 minutes or well over...

Hunting & Fishing 162gr Amax vs coyote

I opened up a couple rock chucks and a few pigeons last week with some 162 Amax's at 3220fps in my 7-300wm. One pigeon literally exploded. Two bigger chunks and a huge puff of feathers. We were shooting across a river so pictures weren't a option unfortunately.

Big 30 or 33 cal for build?

A good one would be a 30-26 Nosler for magazine function on a normal mag bolt face but no one knows what the brass will be like.

    300 Norma mag reloaders

300 Norma is only 2.5" long like a 7rm, .264wm, and .338wm so any press will easily handle it.

    Gunsmithing Muzzle brake recommendations

I guess these groups I shot this weekend with my 30-338 Norma Imp. and 7-300wm, which have round brakes on them, means they could shoot better with a slab brake? I think I know that answer. I also know if the guys gun shot worse then the brake was improperly installed. BTW they were brakes from...

    Gunsmithing Barrel curvature-what's acceptable?

All the Bartlein's I've done recently have been under .015" and one was .006" at 30" long. I also have done two Benchmarks and one was .041" at 26" and the other was .038" at 27". The worst has been a Green Mountain at .134" and it still shot well but the bore was way off from center when cut...

    Gunsmithing Loan me 7-300win mag

My 7-300wm reamer is a .317 neck and .188 freebore. It is perfect for 162 Amax's (what I set it up for). You'd need .200+" freebore for 180's.

Gunsmithing Ream 416 Rem Mag to 416 Ruger?

Probably the best thing to do would be a .416-.375RUM if you want to rechamber a .416 Rem. You'd get .416 Rem velocities with a lot lower pressure because at top pressure it will exceed the .416 Rem. by 100-150fps. It's beltless and is the same length. The down side is it's a wildcat and will...

Gunsmithing Ream 416 Rem Mag to 416 Ruger?

Not going to happen without a good deal of work. The Ruger case is almost .200" shorter than the Remington. If you set the barrel back the .200" then it is possible.

Gunsmithing **I need to time my Muzzle brake--Crush Washers???

That only works OK if the brake is close to timed. If it is way off, where you have to take a lot of material off, then it's pretty easy to sand it crooked.

    Gunsmithing lathe question

It might be short enough through the headstock if you use a spider rather than a chuck. A spider is close to 4" shorter on my lathe compared to a 4 jaw chuck. That would get you down to 24".

Gunsmithing 300wm Extreme Long Range REAMER

I can do it but your better off throating it shorter for the 208's/210's in my opinion. If it doesn't shoot the 230's it kind of screws you up for shooting the shorter bullets and there are a lot more in the 208/210gr range to choose from. If you throat it slightly shorter you are probably...
