Gunsmithing 300wm Extreme Long Range REAMER

I just ordered a .235 throat on my 30-338 Norma Imp. and with 208's you have to seat them out a little bit extra to hit the rifling. With the 230's you have to seat them just below the neck shoulder junction. A 300wm has a shorter neck though so a .235 throat would probably be about ideal for...

Gunsmithing Do I have a problem?

Seeing as it uses a Remington 700 trigger I'd consider that a good thing.

Gunsmithing Do I have a problem?

From the pictures it looks just like a Remington 700 cocking piece I have in front of me.

Gunsmithing Do I have a problem?

I would say you have a problem with the depth of the trigger hanger. It sounds like the trigger is too high and it's binding the bolt up but that is just a guess without seeing things.

    Gunsmithing Timing a muzzlebrake

It's actually about 1 in 41 or so to get it pretty close (within .001) for a 24tpi thread pitch (.04166" per revolution). I would try it out and see how close it is first and then go from there.

Gunsmithing Lorenzo at Deadly Precision Gunsmithing

Your assuming the smith is still in business. You might know he is but none of us do. If he went out of business and failed to return the guys scope, which he paid for and sent to the smith, then it would be considered theft. Without communication no one knows his status. The op might get lucky...

Gunsmithing Lorenzo at Deadly Precision Gunsmithing

I never told him to file a police report. I said to get a hold of them as well as the ATF. They would advise him of his options. They might even go knock on the guys door for him and others if there were enough complaints. In this case I'm sure after a certain amount of time with no contact it...

Gunsmithing Lorenzo at Deadly Precision Gunsmithing

The ATACR is right about the cost he quoted of 2500 on LRH and is in fact 5x25 not the more common 5.5x22 of the NXS. He needs to get a hold of the local authorities and even ATF. If he isn't defunct then ATF can pull his license if he is doing anything illegal.

    Gunsmithing Win mag chamber question

Where the belt sits in the chamber should be a step down (larger diameter) from the body of chamber. It should be straight just like the rest of the chamber. If he cut a relief cut then your brass is flowing into the relief cut upon firing and causing sticky extraction. Brass swells and then...

    Fastest 6mm

I built a 6WSM and it was doing 3600fps with 105 Amax's and Retumbo. I'm sure R-33 would have added 100+fps to that.

    Muzzle Brakes To Consider???

    No they don't.

    Gunsmithing bad chamber job

Setting the barrel back has nothing to do with the usable life of the barrel in your case. It is typically used to extend the life of the barrel when it starts to show throat erosion. In that case it will typically give you about 50% more barrel life but that depends on how back the barrel is at...

8 Mag is going to 2,000 yards.

If you look at the PA 1000yd club results there are still a lot of .308 Baer's and .300 IMP's up in the top. The .300WSM is cutting into that a lot but the .300 magnum are still big out there.

8 Mag is going to 2,000 yards.

Ron, I killed my elk last year and the year before with a .30-8mm (AKA .308 Super). I've built many of them but the present one is one of the most accurate. I shot a .96" 3 shot group at 550yds with it last year. It's a Bartlein Sendero contour.

First custom rifle.... RBros 7mm Rogue

You might try R-33 too. I picked up 80+fps over Retumbo in my 6.5-300wm with it but haven't tried it in my 7-300wm. I would bet with a heavier bullet the R-33 would shine, ie. 195's.

    New shop dog

I just had to put the best dog I've ever had down last week. It was a black lab. His buddy, another black lab, has been feeling the pain as much as me. This is about the only bad time owning a dog. She's a cute one. Hopefully you'll get many many great years with her.

Gunsmithing Truth about blueprinting a Rem 700

I know Ron. :-) What would be cool is if someone had a machine rest and you used the same barrel to test action truing. Start off un-trued and work up a good load and then shoot 10 or 20 5 shot groups. Cut the threads off, true the action and rechamber it. Shoot the same loads for the same...

Gunsmithing Truth about blueprinting a Rem 700

You know what is funny about that? Those same guns will often times shoot sub 1/2" with varmint barrels and rougher than a cob varmint barrels at that. So what is the moral here? Most likely that gap didn't mean squat. That barrel is accurate. Like I said before.....if your competing or just...

Gunsmithing Truth about blueprinting a Rem 700

I couldn't agree more. People get way to worked up over trued actions and other trivial stuff when most would never see the difference it makes. If you only have one or two rifles then by all means go all out but I can't tell the difference between a custom action, a trued Remington, and a...

    1000 Yard Setup

The 40X are Remington actions and Hart barrels. Buy a SPS Varmint in .243 or .308, put it in a better stock, add a good trigger (Jewell), and then pick up a good used Leupold 4.5x14 or 6.5x20 with target knobs. Worry about the magazine/clip and threaded barrel after you learn to shoot. A good...
