    Maven, Leupold, Trijicon, NF

That's understandable I guess. In that case the NF NX8 4-32x50 F1 would be my pick personally for ruggedness and zero retention. Lot of scopes lose zero from simple stuff that can happen on a hunt. Get that scope, some properly installed solid scope rings, a loctited (or integral) scope base...

    Maven, Leupold, Trijicon, NF

Why? Steiner T6Xi 3-18 has great low light performance (with great eyebox) at about the same pricepoint as an NX8 4-32. I believe @Glassaholic has done a review on it, though I'm tired as hell so I could be misremembering. Tradeoff is the reticle is thin for low-power shooting but if it's for...

    Daughters first deer rifle

For time of flight I get it, though 300 vs 400 yards with a 6.5CM is 0.37 vs 0.51 TOF at least from my short hunting barrel. Far as the energy things goes I guess that's been rehashed in here plenty but energy isn't what makes bullets work. Or at the very least it's not a useful thing to look at...

    lets see your foundation stock

Anyone else see the new Gideon hybrid hunting stock? I'd kill for a thumb shelf on it but otherwise looks good depending on weight.

Fierce Firearms Carbon Edge Rifles - Any Experience?

Lot of horror stories about Fierce. Probably best to not even consider them. If you want lightweight in that price range just grab a Seekins Element. Way better bet.

I definitely (in a perfect world) would love the thumb shelf and stippling on my Centurion. But the weight of the Samson is too hefty for me to get one.

    Daughters first deer rifle

Wants a break after 10 rounds? Go 6.5CM or 6CM and get a suppressor if it's legal for you. Hell, isn't the 6.5PRC just a 6.5CM with 200 more MV? Now the max terminally effective range of the bullet will be 700 yards instead of 850 or whatever. It makes no functional difference outside of like...

Best place to get 6.5CM barrel for 737R

Out of curiosity, what length suppressor do you use for it?

Heh... let me tell you a little something about Knockdown-Power™

    Daughters first deer rifle

I don't think any of this disproves his point. A .223 will kill a "grown ass deer" easily. They're not hard to kill. Edit: I guess I could be more productive about this so I'll elaborate. When hunters shoot at animals we are shooting at cross-sections of animals. We are not shooting at a long...

    Monocle for scopes

Would marginally raising your scope/bipod/bag height help?

    Daughters first deer rifle

I don't think it's helpful to do fanfiction about possible hypothetical scenarios when confronted with a collection of pictures and videos of it being fine in reality. I'm more into what the bullet does inside the animal but if an exit wound is 100% required I can definitely see where you're...

    Daughters first deer rifle

Given the largest animal I'll ever hunt will be elk I don't see myself going above 6.5PRC at the highest for wind purposes. It seems that 99% of hunters in the US have no idea how bullets work and kill things on a basic level which makes these discussions kind of annoying.

    Daughters first deer rifle

Why are they the minimum? In that situation, why not just use a cartridge that doesn't recoil as much? Many people flinch from the concussion of a brake as much as they flinch from actual recoil. "Especially considering her age" I'd 10000% be looking to suppress whatever she's shooting that's...

    Difference in temp

Mine's kind of overkill/heavy/expensive. I use a TFCT-34L w/ Anvil ball head with a PT-Scout pan head that I clip into the Anvil for glassing. I can unclip the PT-Scout with my binos on it and have my rifle locked into the Anvil in about 5 seconds. But you could theoretically put a tripod...

    Difference in temp

This is semi-related but if you don't already have a tripod you can shoot off of, consider getting one. Having a good tripod has changed everything about my western spot and stalk hunting. A few weeks ago both my father and I used my tripod to shoot antelope at 360 yards from a fully standing...

    Difference in temp

Given this information I'd say it's you managing the rifle way different in the prone versus the bench you zeroed on.

    Difference in temp

This. Your 100 yard zero is your zero. It should basically never change. I'm pretty sure the environmentals would have to be staggeringly different to produce a "click" worth of POI change at 100 yards. For instance I tried it out with my hunting rifle's ballistics (assuming a 50 yard zero just...

    Rifle Scopes Atacr gen 2

I'm going to hold on to the fantasy that NF (and other companies) have scopes on deck ready to release whenever Swarovski's patent runs out. Not that companies that use LOW currently care about the patent anyway.

Entry Level Build after CDG Price Bump

With Impact you get a company that has a bit more consideration for existing customers I think. ARC does some really cool stuff but that innovation can leave some customers behind sometimes, or at least it feels that way. Nucleus Gen1 vs Gen2, Mausingfield M5 vs M7, long action Mausingfields no...
