New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I figured out my way around this problem some time ago - I usually keep shooting the group until I produce the poor shot. That way I already know I'm going to ruin the group and the challenge is to make it happen further along the string than last time ;)
Exhibit A (7shots 100m)
This is the first time I've built on a Howa action and I'm pretty happy with the results. 23' 6.5x47 that will be fed a steady diet of 130gr Hybrids, A3 edge-fill, Vortex LHT. 9.2lb as pictured. Early load development appears promising.
I just completed load development with a new 6.5-284. I have found that changes to jump/COAL produced a much larger difference in pressure/velocity than I would have expected:
156gr Berger EOL
57.5 Retumbo: 2975, 2986, 2990 (ejector mark)
Same Charge weight with COAL increased .043:
2917...
I'd keep the LRTSi as a comp hunting crossover scope, it's FFP and the reticle is extremely well executed in terms of its usability across the mag range. The LRTSi is also a proven scope, I've has a bunch of the LRHS's and LRTS's and tracking has been perfect with all of them. The glass is so...
I grabbed one of the ET1626 models and I'm very impressed. BTR-2 reticle is great and the long eye relief is welcome on a hard kicking rifle that I'm using this on (9.3x62). At the deals they are currently available at I would not hesitate to pick one up if I were state side
I have both and find them very close with the LHT perhaps having a slight upper hand in edge to edge clarity. They are very similar in terms of feature set but if you're looking to save weight the LHT is significantly lighter
Did a lot of fiddling with various components and played chassis/scope musical chairs during COVID lockdown but I'm happy with how it turned out and I'm done for a while
This bad boy is transitioning from the factory 20' .308 barrel to IBI 24' 6.5x47 "medium hunter" profile. Have a Vortex LHT 3-15x42 ready to ride atop and a metric ton of 130 hybrids, should be dandy
As others have said cutting weight is a game of compromises, but it's certainly easier to do with components today than it was just a few short years ago. This is 9.25lb without the Atlas bipod:
I might go the same route. I assume the MDT Tikka mags at 3.56. don't require a MDT chassis i.e. the mag is compatible with standard long action AICS DBM
