    Once in a while I will fly somewhere without any checked baggage meaning I’m not carrying a knife. I usually stop at a 5.1.1 store or gun shop and pick up an inexpensive knife that if need be can be gifted or sent home by mail.

    Finish/stain for reloading bench ?

    I use Watco Butcher block oil & finish. You can find it at Home Depot. Whenever it gets a little dirty you can pass a scotchbrite pad of fine sandpaper over it and add a couple of coats. I haven’t treated it in the last 5 years.

    Carbon or a shot out barrel?

    If you are unhappy with E.S and S.D try a different powder or primer. As Eric Cortina says think of it as an ignition problem. I have one barrel that went from an SD of 30+ to single digits going from one powder to another.

    For normal cleaning I prefer Butch's Bore Shine. For cabon removal I prefer Bore Tech carbon remover to KG1. I also like using Wipe-Out foaming bore cleaner if I have time.     Have you tried looking to see if you have a carbon ring in the chamber? Is your brass trimmed to proper length? I go about 150 rounds between cleanings. I clean the carbon ring frequently because it is easy to do at the end of the day.
