    moose rifle

Re: moose rifle Good deal! I'd just roll with the '06 unless you've got the itch for a new rifle or really want to stretch out for one. (nothing wrong with either of those) I love the 168 ttsx's for moose in the '06. Decent BC and they've shot really well for me. Good Luck

    moose rifle

Re: moose rifle Just my .02. Having taken quite a few moose in my life I'd say unless you're thinking of playing with the big coastal brownies and are hunting within 400yds the 30-06 with 165's-180's will do it fine and will be useful and practical in the lower 48. If you're interested in...

Gunsmithing shoots WAAAAAAYYYY to the left

Re: shoots WAAAAAAYYYY to the left Thanks for the input guys. It's just a beater rifle which is why I'm getting annoyed with it's lack of cooperation. It's grouping at about .75 at 100 (5 shots) which for what I want is fine. As I said I'm just going to ship it off to SAC and he'll get it...

Gunsmithing shoots WAAAAAAYYYY to the left

Re: shoots WAAAAAAYYYY to the left I've tried checking the mounting holes for the bases/rail, but I'm not able to find anything obvious. The original owner said it shot fine when he had it, of course he failed to mention the issue with the bolt face and denied knowledge of it when confronted...

Gunsmithing shoots WAAAAAAYYYY to the left

I picked up a 700 243 from hide member about a year and a half ago with the intention of rebarreling it to a 7-08. So, I picked up a 7-08 take off barrel from another hide member and sent it to a local gunsmith to screw the new barrel on. Usually, I send all my stuff to SAC, but I figured this...

    Gunsmithing opening barrel channel

On a Manners stock with the Carbon fiber shell is it possible to open the barrel channel or does the carbon fiber shell prohibit doing so with out damaging the stock? Thanks.

Gunsmithing .280 in 300 win mag AI mag

Re: .280 in 300 win mag AI mag I wish I had the same luck as Jake. I have a 280 that uses AI mags. I had to bend the feed lips to get it to feed properly and so the cartridges wouldn't fall out the back. They are very tough and kind of a pain to bend without buggering them up. If you find...

TAB adds another fan f/ great customer service!

Re: TAB adds another fan f/ great customer service! He's taken care of me in a similar fashion in the past. I practically had to beg him to let me split the postage over the broken item since it certainly wasn't his fault. I've never had the opportunity to meet him, but if I ever find myself...

Building a do it all rifle.

Re: Building a do it all rifle. There is some truth to what others have said regarding the "do all" type rifle. I've tried it. However, I think you're on the right track. With the distances you're wanting to hunt at <500, the fact that you don't mind having a little weight in the rifle, and...

Building a do it all rifle.

Re: Building a do it all rifle. The 300WM is going to be a lot of rifle for what you want to do. It's obviously up to you, but a 30 cal magnum wouldn't be my first choice I think the 7mm SA or LA non magnum cartridges will fit the bill perfectly. Of course the venerable 30-06 would also do...

Building a do it all rifle.

Re: Building a do it all rifle. the difference between the wsm and the win mag in terms of barrel life I wouldn't imagine is'nt worth worrying about. The win mag is going to do better with the heavier bullets than the wsm.

Building a do it all rifle.

Re: Building a do it all rifle. you should be able to get 2K-2500 rounds out of a 300 without too much trouble. Depends on how hot you load it. It's certainly better than the 7 mag.

Building a do it all rifle.

Re: Building a do it all rifle. Any difference between the 30-06 and the 280 with similar weight bullets is really just getting academic and really isn't worth getting wrapped around the axle about. Shot placement is going to be VASTLY more important than any energy difference between the two.
