I need a name for a rifle action company. Help me and win.

We almost named our company "Precision Custom Tactical Sniper Rifle Weapon Systems Arms Company" or PCTSRWSAC" for short. We wanted to make sure we hit every high speed name out there all in one. Haha, Im just messing. The hardest part is doing what you are trying to do. If you build a great...

Gunsmithing Lathe 1 3/8 spindle bore

We have Clausing Colchester's with 1.625" and I would not go any shorter. Imagine trying to thread a shorter barrel, you need to make an extension to get proper hold on the barrel, it gets pretty tight and you would have to get creative to make it work with a smaller extension piece. Mark

Short Action Customs: DTA 223 conversion. Updates 2/4/14

It will be our 223 Match chamber reamer set up for the 75 to 80 range bullets seated close to the lands at our mag length. We may entertain the idea of supplying a mag block for single feeding considering our working parts minus the magazines are just about ready. Mark

Short Action Customs: DTA 223 conversion. Updates 2/4/14

We are most likely going to be able to run the 300 Blackout no problem with our new magazine design, but it will be available down the road. We have not settled in on a price at this moment, but we will do our best to make it in line with other conversions available on the market. Mark

Short Action Customs: DTA 223 conversion. Updates 2/4/14

Shooters, Just getting some information regarding our 223 Conversion for the Desert Tactical Arms SRS/Covert out to the public. What we are aiming to accomplish is a direct drop in 223 conversion for the SRS/Covert. This conversion will include these components. SAC 223 bolt head assembly...

Does A Tikka Need To Be Trued?

The last two we did, were not that bad. We did square up the action face mainly to increase shoulder contact, but otherwise it was same/better than a Remington 700. These were just two actions, I do not know how the others fair. I will give it to the TRG actions, they shoot really well...

Will a Surgeon bolt knob fit on a defiance deviant bolt handle???

We use the bolt knob from Jered Joplin at American Precision Arms. In my opinion, its the best fitting bolt knob on the Defiance action platform. Jered actually uses a similar bolt knob with a counter bore that brings the bolt knob closer to the centerline of the action for the fastest bolt...

Will a Surgeon bolt knob fit on a defiance deviant bolt handle???

It will look like Crap but it will fit. Surgeon bolt handles are designed specifically for Surgeon Rifles, they may possibly bit on Bighorn actions, but they were never designed for Remingtons, Winchesters or the majority of custom actions. You will have an excessively long bolt handle that...

Gunsmithing Do I need a custom reamer or would a SAAMI spec chamber suffice, .260 Rem.

You would want a .298 neck or so if you want Lapua brass. Other than that a standard 260 reamer would probably do really well for you. Mark

Gunsmithing Bolt Lug Contact of High End Customs: Surprising Results

The Tikka rifles we have in the shop have a 90 degree connection between the trigger connector/sear and the cocking piece. A Remington, Howa, Winchester, and custom action designs have an angled trigger connector/sear and an angled cocking piece which will always push the bolt upwards as it...

    CG Xtreme/Tom Myers sorrows

I have been dealing with Tom for a few years now and I recently had a hard time getting in touch which is not the norm. He typically calls back, responds to emails and what not. I do know he has been super busy lately and I'm sure he is not trying to blow off any customers, however he is...

Rifle Scopes Hope Kahles has something new for SHOT this year.

I spoke with the CEO of Kahles (Mag. Robet Artwohl) and I mentioned the same thing to him. I pretty much got the "its in the works" type answer which is acceptable. I ran a 3-12x56 Hensoldt at the GAP Grind and did not feel outgunned power wise, but the reticule was a little thick being a Mil...

    Rifle Scopes Hensoldt 3,5-26x56

I must say I'm a hard core Hensoldt fan. I have not looked through better glass. They have always functioned perfectly, they are pound for pound the best scope in my opinion. I cant find a lighter, more compact scope with better glass and eye box. The reticule options are their biggest...

    Observation...Neck Sizing vs FL Sizing.

You should full length resize and never look back. I know the headspace of my chamber and I size my brass about .003 shorter than what the headspace is. I need my rifle to chamber and fire every time, and neck sizing will not give you that in the majority of the conditions. At the 2013 GAP...

Gunsmithing Need help 2013 shank length question

I have found that if you go to the print, it will compress the breaching ring enough to displace a little metal in the feed ramp area and it needs to be polished down with a cratex wheel. I have also seen a pretty good bur in the front scope base hole that is bad enough to potentially cause...

    Hawk Hill Custom barrels?

I have used a few Hawk Hill Custom barrels. Here are some of the things we look at when considering the quality of a rifle barrel. Over all fit and finish Straightness of the bore Consistency of the rifling and bore diameter How the barrel machines/reams. How well the barrel shoots Fouling and...

Gunsmithing Surgeon 1086 7 Mag misfires

You may want to contact Jon Addis at Area 419 Firearms. Home He just finished a nice 300 Win Mag build on a 1086 and it had the same issues. I'm not sure what the conclusion was, but it looked like the firing pin spring was really short, possibly the wrong one was installed. Again, I do not...

    EVIL LITTLE BLACK RIFLE.......psssstt

Charlie, If you need any components, I have couple boxes of 220's, 240's and some other bullets from when I was playing around with my 16" BLK OUT. The 220's shot great. Mark

    Bighorn Action Next Gen!!!

AJ is doing a great job of making a super competitive action. They are hard to beat and the finish is great. I would never hesitate to use a Bighorn action on any build. Mark
