The optic would not focus correctly till I torqued down the loctited ring that holds the magnification settings on top. Once I did that, it got better and I could focus it adequately. That also made the magnification off...
I put a Nikon Black FX1000 on my .22 and close range parallax is such a huge issue I removed it. You cant get accurate groups at even 40 yards with high magnification unless your head position is 100% PERFECT. Even with reduced magnification to make the target less blurry the reticle moves a ton...
Brightest will be close to 800nm but also visible to the naked eye. 900nm and longer will be invisible to the human eye, but dimmer for a given wattage. On the plus side, you can just get more wattage in the 900+ range to compensate.
