Brand New 6.5 Grendel Feeding Issues

Check your extractor. I had a problem like that, and the extractor was a little too thick. I swapped pieces one by one, and when I changed te extractor it started working properly. Not sure exactly what was happening, but my best guess was that the thick extractor was slowing the bolt down...

Range Report New Sierra 150 SMK for 6.5

I haven't tried them in a 6.5CM, but I did try them in a 260 Rem (a long time ago). I could not get them to group decently, but that was in an 1:8 twist barrel.

    Annealing, how often?

I’m lazy, I do it every 3d time. That’s when I can tell the difference in neck tension.

    New Hornady 109gr 6mm ELD-M

I haven't used them extensively at 1000yds, because at that range the BC difference for the At-Tips is significant, but when I was testing them they shot just fine at 1k. But I have a 1:7.25 twist barrel.

    About to start loading 22lr

The Manson/CE reamer for the 50gn CE bullet has a .150 long .2215 diameter freebore. For the 32gn and 42gn CE bullets, there is a .075 freebore. I'm not sure why they did it that way, although I vaguely recall them saying something like it allows the bullet to build more speed. It does seem...

    About to start loading 22lr

FYI, I ordered some of the Badlands bullets a couple months ago, and at that time they were asking $24/box of 50. I would be willing to sell some of them if you want to try them out. They look like great bullets, but my barrel has the CE chamber with the long throat and the accuracy was not...

    Cutting Edge CuRx loading tray

I’ve been shooting the 50gn CE bullets in a 1:6 twist barrel with decent results. I think whether you can shoot traditional ammo well will depend on what chamber you use. If you use the CE recommended chamber, traditional ammo probably won’t be as good as it is in a tight match chamber. But a...

    New Hornady 109gr 6mm ELD-M

Midway had these listed as in stock very briefly yesterday, so it looks like these are not exclusive to GAP. But GAP’s price is better.

What 6mm 1000 yard bullet for CM?

The 110 JLK was my favorite when they were available. Then I switched to A-Tips as the best available substitute. Berger 109 hybrids also worked well, but not quite as consistently as the Atips. The new 109ELDs from GAP work great, too, but give up some BC to the Atips that shows out past...

Proof & Bartlein CF rimfire barrel experience

Bartlein's stated approach was that they only do the CF barrels if they could keep the same high level of quality as standard barrels. The result is that their CF barrels are heavier than others, but I have not heard of any problems with then My experience is only with a rimfire barrel, and I...

Rifle Scopes March 1-10 Shorty Mount

Has anyone tried a wide single ring (e.g., the Nightforce 6 screw rings)?

Accessories Bartlein 6mm MOD400BB Blank Gap #6 Contour

I like the GAP #6 profile, I think of it as a hybrid of the heavy palma and varmint. It starts 1.250" x 3", has a heavy taper and finishes to .900" @ 26""

    6 Creedmoor - 115 DTAC HBN with H4350/Alpha LRP?

With the disclaimer that I have never used Alpha brass, I would say that is a moderately hot load but not so hot I would worry about it unless you will be shooting in noticeably warmer temperatures later. But I would also re-check your speeds up to around 250 rounds through the barrel. While I...

    New Hornady 109gr 6mm ELD-M

I have not tried to measure the bearing surface, but the profile of the 109ELDs is pretty close to the ATip profile, and in my 6 Creedmoor I get the same average velocity for the same load, so if you can shoot ATips in your 6BRA the 109ELDs should work as well.

    New Hornady 109gr 6mm ELD-M

I got a chance to shoot these at longer ranges yesterday. Out to 500yds, it was pretty hard to tell the difference between the 109ELDs and 110ATips. At 600, there was maybe one click difference in elevation. When I true the drops out to 1000, I get a BC of .285-.290 for the 109ELDs and...

Tripod rest: vise style or free rest craddle for medium range hunting

I mostly agree with what Feniks said, but for me the solid connection works better. If you are clamped to the tripod, you need to practice and get comfortable with how you are bracing the tripod, and you need to make sure that your tension for adjustments is set just right, so that nothing...

The effects of the transition from super to sub sonic on the 22lr

I’m not aware of any studies for this. I know from experience that in pellet guns diablo style pellets lose stability in the transonic zone, but that some slugs (closer to .22LR shape bullets) seem to do better. And while not a direct correlation with accuracy, wind drift increases in the...

Tripod rest: vise style or free rest craddle for medium range hunting

I would say (1) arca plate on rifle with a quick release tripod head, (2) sandbag on a plate, and then (3) vise saddle. For (1) and (3) you need a leveling base or ball head with the tension adjusted so that it doesn't slip easily but can be moved with reasonable pressure. All can be used...
