I'd volunteer to help new shooters before the match.

I was kind of surprised to see the new system since I never really heard anyone complain about the matches or the way they were run before, not to mention the fact that we're not shooting for money or prizes. I really don't have any idea what goes on in the background, but were there people...

Longbow, welcome to the forum. Definitely come check out the UNSC matches that Unknown mentioned, it'll give you a chance to meet people. The spot up in Acme getting closed would be a bummer, but I have to believe it's a result of other people making a mess far more than people from here who...

    Washington winter steel shoot

It was a little cold, so I didn't take many pics, I just got a few of the area and one or two of my dad shooting. Looking down into the shooting area from the road: My dad shooting the mover stage, it was down at the base of the canyon wall:

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

Is that directed at me? I'm not saying anything at all about scoring, I'm only responding to the discussion that was taking place above about specifics of rulebooks and IDPA and all that stuff. My feeling is simply that a very simple set of suggested rules might help someone interested in...

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

That being the case I don't think there's any need to worry about any fancy type of rulebook, but I'd wager it would be helpful to an aspiring MD to have a simple suggested set of rules they could work from to get going.

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

Does each affiliated club need to operate from the same exact rulebook? If you're planning on this "match-in-a-box" idea working at established ranges you'll quickly run up against the fact that each range will allow/disallow certain things. I think rather than trying to come up with an...

As 2014 Approaches does this need to be addressed ?

I like the idea. I looked briefly at the PRS, but there's really no reason to sign up here in WA unless I planned to travel to a bunch of matches where the PRS is big, and even then it seemed more like a benefit only to the very best shooters with most of the cash coming from guys who may well...

Thoughts on a 6.5 grendel long range precision rifle for my daughter?

I like this idea. I shoot a 6XC rifle in LR matches, and in my area we have monthly "tactical" style matches at a local range where we max out at 530 yards. For those shorter range matches I run a reduced speed load and cheaper bullets (Hornady 105s vs my normal 105 Hybrids) to save a little...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Grip Length Reduced Glocks

Do it. I have a G17 cut down to G19 grip length and I love it. I also have a G19, so it's not that I couldn't get a G19. I just like the way the G17 shoots more.

That doghouse was hell. I'd like another crack at it though, maybe with a little more time. Nonetheless, an awesome match. I'll be at the Vantage match next month, but I'll be back in January. Thanks Kevin and Anton!

Eye Protection in Long range shooting? Noob Question #2

I can imagine if you have some horrible cheap scratched up lenses it might suck, or if you're shooting in near dark conditions and you need every photon you can get into your eye, but other than those situations I really don't think even halfway decent shooting glasses "ruin" anything...

Hunting & Fishing Feeding dogs wild game

Dogs certainly can eat raw meat, though as noted above don't just abruptly switch them from their current food to an all raw diet. My dogs eat a varied combination of chicken, beef, turkey, eggs, salmon, kale, sweet potatoes, spinach, quinoa, rice, carrots, bell peppers, peas, and whatever else...

Eye Protection in Long range shooting? Noob Question #2

I came in here to post basically the same thing. After piercing a couple of primers at a match once (load was a bit too hot) and getting the jet of hot gas and particles blasted into my face I was pretty glad I chose to wear shooting glasses.
