    Hunting & Fishing GAR!!!

Man, that reminds me of vacationing on Lake of the Ozarks (Mo) and seeing those damned things jump completely out of the water while we were waterskiing. We stayed at a resort on the lake that had fishing piers jutting out into the lake with a lighted end. Well the lights attracted the bugs...

    Hunting & Fishing Wife's First Deer - 507 Yards

I'll be the That Guy. You ranged a "possible 3Point" deer at 500yds on a fenced-field hunt with 10X glass and took a shot? And you "Stalked" for a WHOLE 90 minutes, wow what patience! Where I'm from (Illinois) that's considered beyond shamefull.

    Barrel/Brake Question

If it's not a carry-rifle, put a couple of pounds of #7 lead birdshot in the butt end of the stock. Bipods work better shooting prone. If you're at a bench go with bags.

    Best Chronograph for the $

From my experience the POI shift is different but still is consistent enough to use for initial load testing. Not having to dick around with setting one up downrange, skyscreens and sky conditions and alignment more than outweight the POI matter.

Redding type S bushing die not sizing neck

THIS........ The black nut that holds the decapping rod in the die is what the bushing butts up against. These dies may not size the entire neck of long-necked cartridges (if the neck is longer than the height of the bushing) but they work perfectly when set up correctly.

Hierarchy of the precision reloading process

I'm an F-Class (Open) competitor. I shoot a 6Dasher in matches from 600 to 1,000 yards. By order of loading virgin Lapua brass: 1) Run brass thru an expander mandrel to iron out any out-of-round casemouths. 2) Resize neck to desired neck tension using a bushing die. (Whidden FL Bushing...

Brass Cleaning and Annealing for Sniper's Hide Members !!!

Grant, It really depends.....unless you're running a known-to-be-light load I would want to keep the two lots separate. The biggest issue isn't the necks going bad but the casehead separating from the bottom and the primer pockets getting loose. Once I see 5% of a "lot" with those two defects...

    Wipe Out Foam Bore Cleaner

They also make an excellent carbon remover called CarbOut (brilliant, I know). It removes what the WipeOut leaves behind, especially useful to eliminate the carbon-ring at the throat.

F T/R Competition Stiller or Defiance

I'd look at a Barnard. Great action and includes a fine trigger. If you've got the $$$, go BAT.

    Lowering ES whats the secret?

ES and SD are primarily dependent on ignition and powder burn rates so the first thing to sort out is finding that "right" combination of primer and powder. Beyond that is the combination of charge weight and internal case dimension. There's no shortcut to an exacting measurement of the...

finally a good day with the savage tube!

Yes, my Dasher only gets fed Berger Hybrids, sorted for length and weight and pointed with the Whidden tool. Cases are also sorted by weight (for sequential loading).

finally a good day with the savage tube!

When you're measuring group sizes.........measure from the outside edge of the most distant holes then subtract the bullet diameter. Much more accurate than trying to place caliper jaws in the "center" of holes....you can also spread the calipers to .308" (or any other caliber) and rezero the...

    Who makes these dies?

I used Redding's FL bushing dies in the past but have switched to Whidden's die because I shoot a Wildcat (6 Dasher) and his die internals were based on the PT&G reamer used for my chambering. I think John's dies are actually nicer than the Reddings as well as being cheaper. As Jelrod noted...

Gunsmithing Cut away view of chamber

Pretty typical. Increased freebore, lack of defined land beginnings and firecracking all contribute to the diminished accuracy.

Rifle Scopes Top end magnification to get to 1000 yards in .308?

For 1,000 yard target shooting Nightforce rules the firing line. And the majority of them are the 12-42X for good reason - you can't hit what you can't readily see. New competitors who show up with 15-25X glass their first few matches almost always end up selling and buying more magnification...
