    308 Winchester AR Only

I've used a fair amount of Re-15 in the 308. I will NEVER buy it again. I've tested 8208, AR Comp, H-4895 and Varget in my 4 308's, 2 gas guns and 2 bolt guns. Any of those are my preferred powder in the 308 with 155's, 168's and 175-8's. Re-15 is temp sensitive enough for me in my climate...

    Whose 308 ammo to purchase

Newer Federal Brass with the blue primer sealant is decent brass. The very old federal brass was soft. If you're getting loose primer pockets on the newer brass after one firing, your loads are too hot.

    Whose 308 ammo to purchase

Stay away from the recently made Turkish made ZSR M-80 ball ammo, it's been blowing up guns.

    308 Winchester AR Only

That is not M118 load data card. It is the newer, Navy Mk 316 MOD 0 using IMR 4064. The DODIC- AB39 is for that ammo. M118 was loaded with a couple of different powders over the years. The older M118 L/R load loaded with Reloader 15 and had pressure issues in the Desert. The DODIC for that load...

    Shoulder bump inconsistency

I'll explain it this way, I have two of the Hornady .400 inserts. One is very old, the other one was purchase a couple of years ago. I have a friend with a 1.630" GO gauge for 308 Win. and he let me borrow it. I measured the GO gauge with both of the .400 inserts. The old insert measured...

Which shoulder bump/headspace gauges (other than SAC) index off the entire shoulder rather than a datum line?

Sinclair inserts have a shoulder. It is a comparator and does not give SAAMI numbers. On a 1.630" GO gauge, my Sinclair 308 Win. insert measures @ 1.561". If you are looking for a SAAMI number, the RCBS precision mic and Whidden gauge are zeroed @ 1.630". what is the measurement off of the...

Reloading for 223/556 Service Rifle Competition (NRA/CMP bullseye)

The "Magnum" primers, CCI 450, CCI 41, CCI BR-4 and Remington 7-1/2 primers all have a .025" thick primer cup. Most other small rifle primers have a .020" primer cup. The extra .005" thickness handles higher pressures better. *EDIT* spife beat me to it while I was typing.

Help Needed - Sticky Bolt CLOSE

I've used it in my 22" GAP 10 with 175's in IMI brass. Brass didn't get beat up. I do have a Tubbs flat wire spring in it and have his CWS if i need it. I agree it's a slower powder for gas guns. I wouldn't use it in my M1-A's or Garands. Too slow for them.

    308 Brass Primer Pockets

^^ Yup, that is it. ^^, that's the "something else going on". I had to go back and zoom in on the case photos and on the second case I can now see the pocket is convex from something pushing down from inside. supercorndogs caught it. I'd take the decapping rod out of the die and check to see...

    Shoulder bump inconsistency

O/P, you are NOT going to get a SAAMI headspace reading off of your Hornady Comparator. It is a Comparator, NOT a headspace gauge. New reloaders think you'll get SAAMI numbers off of the comparator, you do not. Just use the numbers you get off of you fired brass and set the die to bump minus...

    308 Brass Primer Pockets

I've been shooting Federal 308 brass since the 1970's. It has varied in weights over the years and the old brass was quite soft. Having said that, I've NEVER had FC 308 brass not accept a L/R primer. I've used every brand of primers including the Wolf Russian primers that are a bit bigger than...

    90's primers price and reliability

You can see what they paid for them years ago. I would offer them twice that. That would be more than fair due to the age of the primers. You both win.

Since a couple others chimed in on other powders, I'll add this. Alliant 2000MR will get higher, safe, velocities in the 308. I've experimented with it in two of my 308's. I've gotten 2750+ FPS out of a 24" using 46.5 grs. in Federal GMM brass with no pressures with a 175 Nosler CC. Downside is...

Help Needed - Sticky Bolt CLOSE

Cases look fine. The newer Federal GMM cases with the blue primer lacquer sealant is better brass than the much older GMM brass that had no primer sealant. I've shot it all. The old stuff is pretty soft.

You are getting nowhere the lands @ max magazine length with a stock Remington barrel. They have long throats.

    Two sizing dies

Don't have the answer for you, but I'll say my Mighty Armory 308 Win. die works fine for brass that needs a .335" or more bushing. It will not give any useable neck tension on brass that uses a .333" or smaller bushing. I have a lot of the older, thin Winchester and Hornady brass that needs a...

Toss the rod into the freezer after the penetrating oil has sat for awhile, then try again.

Help Needed - Sticky Bolt CLOSE

O/P, do ^^this ^^, unscrew the sizing button. Take the pin out, screw the sizing button back onto the rod and re-install in the die. After you're done, reinstall the pin. You might have to lube the inside of the case necks since you're going back into a sized with the expanding button twice in...

Help Needed - Sticky Bolt CLOSE

Yes, just run them through the now properly adjusted F/L sizing die again, no big deal. You do need to re-lube the cases. Although, it seems you major issue was squishing the shoulders when you seated the bullets on an improperly adjusted seating die. You had two things going on. On a standard...

Help Needed - Sticky Bolt CLOSE

That is NOT the way to setup a sizing die. Even the RCBS instructions say to raise the ram, touch the die, lower the ram and then turn the die in another 1/4 turn. You need a little cam over to take the slop out of the presses linkage. I still say you're not bumping the shoulder back. Turn your...
