It is not Required on the RT90 or Artice 90. But after you see the rigidity of the MWOR plate offers like RRS designed for there mounting systems- midwestoffroad

So ball head over Anvil is solely going to be end user specific. You can probably mount a RRS clamp on a ball head to have that feature. The Anvil offers a better lock up in a smaller package with more range of motion. Which allows it to be the better option for shooting off of...- midwestoffroad
