I have the Velocity systems special threat plate (as they are now called...used to be lvl III/IV ICW plates) which are more of a shooters cut.
Swimmers cut makes an even steeper angle and longer cut off the corner which provides less coverage and exposing some of the lung and possibly clavian...
So I just picked up a COTI and it sucks to hear it sucks lol. Can you maybe contextualize that?
And if you didn’t run a COTI, how would you run a fighting setup with a thermal detection “layer”? Handheld with mono, or better yet, Bino I2? Head mounted dual band? Other?
Thanks, I was mainly interested in the MRDS mount...which looks like a Reptilia, but all the additional info you gave helps alot. I am back and forth on doing a piggyback optic or a offset mainly as a passive NV aiming device...but secondarily as a BUS. I'm not sure if offset will work well...
Quick question, if specs were equal between these XLSH tubes and the SLH (HP+) tubes sold by others, would these look identical between the two or will there still be some lack of performance from the XLSH in comparison to the SLH?
Ah true I didn’t think about the fact that it won’t JUST be 850 or 940nm. So would you think the Modlite 850 has enough juice to work with your pass filter? I’d be curious on the results if you try it.
I’m looking for something weapon mounted so the amazon special probably won’t work 😆
Yeah the vid I’ve seen is pretty impressive. It really is a beast. Any chance you’ve played with your pass filter on it to reduce the red signature? Or have you played with the Modlite 940 head?
I think you’re talking about the JWRamp vid. Yeah that was a good vid and it looks plenty powerful. Have you played with the 940 head? Wondering if it cuts out the red glow and can illuminate out to 150+?
@aslrookie I would say your buddies problem is more training than hardware.
Are you running a 14 or dual tube system?
Also what is your impression of the Modlite 850? Usable range? Do they autogate your tube(s)?
Thanks, good post. I was planning to pair a CQBL with either a SF Vamp or Modlite IR on a TAPS switch or dual lead hot button once they come out.
Agreed on a separate white light being needed on a fighting rifle and for me, that’s a Modlite with clicky cap.
Thanks, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the COTI today and working on the 14. Once I get both in hand, and some time with them, I’ll make a decision on a 2nd 14 or just save a little more for a BNVD as my main rig.
2.5 lbs is the whole system weight (shell, pads, suspension, rails, etc.). The .7lbs on a bump/carbon is referring to just the shell. It will end up at least 1.5 lbs once you add all the above.
Personally I see the Crye skull cap as something I would use just messing around in the woods or...
@jeffl838 I think at this point, I'm going to have to choose between a 14+COTI OR just a BNVD. If things are looking crazier and crazier by the end of the year, then I'll do what I need to do to get the BNVD in my hands...and maybe a handheld/helmet mounted thermal if I can swing it. There may...
