New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I shoot with my magnetospeed on all the time. Rifle is zero'd with it on. For me it makes no difference to groups whether it is on or off. If you develop a good load with it on then it will shoot good groups with it on.
The issue people have is they use it for load development and get a load...
Even though 4dof Calls for less spin drift than the 3dof apps I still think it overestimates it. I use 4dof with the 139 scenar with wind set to 0 it calls for .46moa of spin at 800m for me or .64moa at 1000m. I've tested this at first light with no wind and it is too much.
I switched from H4350 to RL 16 in my 6.5x47L a while back. I also believe its is superior overall SD, ES, velocity and case fill. It does seem to heat the barrel up a fair bit though. I ran a string through 47 shots in the summer sun and the barrel was still hot 45 mins later after driving home.
I agree with you, the more I test things the more BS and inaccuracy I find. Unless shooting benchrest equipment that shoots in the 0.1s out to 1000 there is too much error. We do the best we can with what we have but its certainly not what I would call "precise" I found shooting a tall target...
Thanks guys I check weather with my kestrel around every hour so I know that's good. My zero height is good as well.
I think Mordamer is on the money with either my zero off or scope off. I don't think it's velocity as my magneto seems to always be reliable and I mount it the same way...
Just looking for some thoughts. Took 3 bullets out to 800 metres today to true them up. Was a perfect day for it with light rain most of the time which kept mirage to a minimum.
I shoot with the magneto on all the time today was no different. First bullet was the 123 lapua scenar. Ballistic ae...
I have my sightron S3 which has 79moa of travel zero'd with 10.5moa from bottom and 68.5 moa up. This was with a 40moa nightforce base which really only gave 29moa after zeroing. It works out well for me as 29moa gets me out to 900m where I will be at optical centre of scope. Most of my...
I agree with Cory 100% "fliers" and "outliers" in both groups and chrono data should be included. I think its comical how many times on youtube I see excuses about pulled shots and fliers, don't want to hear about it the group is what it is.
I shoot with my magneto on all the time I have...
Thanks mate some great ideas there we think alike. I have thought about shooting off the roof of the ute which would give me another 1metre or so of height. You are correct that my line of site due to the hills between me and the target are right through the worst of the mirage. Combine that...
Padom what do you think the issue is with the bullets? How do they measure, weight, length, base to ogive?
Do you think it could be a twist rate issue? I searched 130 rdf on YouTube and there is an Englishman who has managed to get them to shoot well
So has anyone tested this bullet at long range to confirm bc? Litz tested the 140 RDF a fair bit lower than advertised. Wondering if the 130 is the same?
Clearlight thanks man I forgot avout those magneto things will have to get one I think. The main reason I can't spot other than when mirage kicks in is that the undulations in the ground only allow me to just see the target from the back of the ute and the target is around 1m off the ground...
Thanks guys I think I will go for the mile hill next time. Good to know others are shooting rocks as well lol. Be interesting to see if the 139 kick up any dirt out there.
Backspace Nar no chance of that mate this spot is in the Australian outback no access to water here.
So I have access to a place where I can shoot my 6.5x47l out to 1500m which in Australia is not easy at all so consider myself very lucky.
It is not the perfect place for ELR however so looking for some ideas. Basically the ground is undulating so laying prone on ground you cannot see the...
If you read over on the accurate shooter forum the top 1000yard bench rest shooters they shoot and go with only what the paper shows at 1000 yards. I have seen them mention more than once that the smallest groups (less than 2inches) sometimes have an ES over 20 which they do not care about as...
