Gunsmithing Smallest practical lathe for chambering and threading

Figuring out how the floor will handle the load is your challenge. A second story stick built residential structure will also move a lot, good luck keeping machine level. A south bend 9 or light 10 or equivalent atlas with 33+" between centers is about as light as they go. You will want to...

Gunsmithing Smallest practical lathe for chambering and threading

@GasLight Hardinge 11x18 is the smallest between centers dimension lathe I am aware of that is practical for chambering through the headstock (yet it weighs thousands of pounds and go for not insignificant $ for ones capable of threading).SOUTHBEND 9'S or similar atlas's are the lightest, most...

    Tikka T1X

Mike, I am not saying your mag is designed wrong, just that the design, in it's current form,is incompatible with Tikka's design. It would be great to have you make mags, as people could ditch the factory housing and it's rather large shcs that makes for chassis inletting issues. All @mperry07...

    Gunsmithing Lathe advise?

@Rlbol HAAS tool room cnc lathes are popular professionals due to price, performance and the CNC control. @Rlbol and @jetmd. If sticking to a manual machine and used - clausing 17x60's and Mori-Seki (and the Korean and Taiwanese Clones) lathes are ones to look at hard if you have the space, can...

    Tikka T1X

Vudoo mags have the bullet location wrong for where a T1x needs the round presented. Look at a picture of a mag and see how the cartridge is at the front of a AICS mag's, now look at the bottom of your T1x in s AICS compatible stock w/o the mag housing assembly and see where the cartridge needs...

@mperry07 I have several posts on a T1x and MPA's 1 page or so back but these pics should say it all as to what you need to do

Tikka T1X Pic rail suggestions.....and maybe scope

@Prebanpaul you have some reading fail in your post. @rick137 was advocating a supplier he later admitted has not verified the hole spacing yet. He then tried to verify said hole spacing on the www and made some incorrect statements concerning rail dimensions and tolerances in general, both...

    Rimfire Rifle Photos Thread

Dennis, consider it a reasonably priced barreled action with a throwaway stock...if Robert cant answer your question I'll PM my # and we can compare the measurements on your centerfire Tikkas triggergaurds to the inlet of a T1x trigger gaurd.

Tikka T1X Pic rail suggestions.....and maybe scope

Dimensional Tolerances are just that, what the designer specifies as an allowable range of sizes for a part. If you make it outside of those sizes ,it might work and it might not, BUT if you are making it outside of the specified values, don't count on getting paid for the part you made for...

@bgavin- MPA I am highly confident it will provided you reinstall the mag catch but I dont own a centerfire Tikka (yet) to prove it. I have made more than one of my own aics compatible chassis in the past and based on those experiences, there is enough of the existing magwell it should be gtg...

Tikka T1X Pic rail suggestions.....and maybe scope

Murphy makes nice stuff, I reccomend him to others sometimes. The issue is T3 hole spacing is different than T1x's. Unless a customer provides him the spacing or he has one in his shop (doubtful this early in the T1x game) he cant make you one...there is a reason why people are scratching their...

On both chassis I have modified the mag catch had to be removed and approximately. 050 removed from the back of the magwell to a certain point to allow the mag to fully seat.

No bolt stop was molested in this modification like suggested by another poster

Gunsmithing School me on measuring an action for a barrel Tennon

Do you have a good depth micrometer? With bolt in action measure to bolt face and subtract between .001 and .002 for crush this is your headspace depth. With bolt in action measure to bolt bolt nose, subtract .010, this is tennon length, fit cone breech/counterbore/flat breech as needed and...

    Rimfire Rifle Photos Thread

@rob203 as is, all of the krg tikka stocks are a no go currently, if you have access to a milling machine they can be modified to work, see my posts in the T1x thread for details.

Tactical Invovations and Feddersen what the H***

.002 interference fit is getting into the range where you might want to consider cooling the barrel along with heating the reciever. Proper alignment will be important along with working quickly. An old millwright type trick is to cool the one part with "redneck liquid nitrogen"...

@Prebanpaul From memory, slightly under 1" max dial for shoulder. I had every intention of spinning up a new longer / heavier barrel as I have 4 or 5 rimfire blanks on hand. After shooting it the first time the other day, I am tempted to just put a pistol can on it and see how it...

    Tikka T1X

@Pepper As far as I know, I am the 1st to fit a T1x to a KRG. Several people in this thread have said it can't be done but look at the pictures of my rifle 1 page back. It is possible you just need to be willing to make it work. I wish it was a plug and play option , and knowing how big of a...
