New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Totally valid! However, my 1:8 desire is precisely to try 40 and 53 grain VMax and/or Nosler Ballistic Tips to blow those suckers up.
My go to load for my 223/5.56 rifles is almost exclusively 75 grain BTHP over 24.0 Varget and CCI 450s. Shoots sub MOA in every rifle I own currently. I'm...
Building a Prairie Dog slayer/long range 223 and deciding between a 20" 1:8 heavier profile barrel to run.
Had decided on WOA but they only have a 22" in stock right now and I kinda settled on a 20 since I shoot suppressed and velocity difference is about 40-60 fps between the two.
Which...
I haven't had time to recheck! I purchased a couple extra tungsten weights to mess around with mass first, then brass but haven't yet taken the initiative. Lame, I know.
If you have an 18" barrel, I'd download for sure. :)
xbr8208 worked great with 58 Vmax at 30.4-30.7 and gave top velocity average of 3,163 fps with .487" group average.
At present, I'm loading Varget for heavies and xbr8208 with lights in 6 ARC.
This is great feedback - I've yet to own a Bartlein. This would be my first!
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Craddock Bartlein. Fingers crossed for sub-moa performance.
Agreed - I am lucky enough to have 3 AR platforms that are consistently in that range and only one bolt gun.
AR Variants:
1. Daniel Defense M4V11 shooting either 75 BTHP over Varget or factory 69 BTHP - I will never sell this rifle as it shoots so far above my expectations.
2. Radian 6mm ARC...
Quick update - spoke with Paul at Craddock Precision (after speaking with Brady at Bartlein). He said he could run a 12.5" (or whatever inch) with the gas length of his choosing in about 3-4 months for about $400.
Given all options - think it's worth running with Craddock over others? I...
Out of curiosity, what optic are you planning for your 12.5" ARC? I have a PA 1-8 Raptor on there now, but want to push out to 800-1k at my elevation and want a better reticle/setup. Thinking of a Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10 with Mil reticle, Athlon BTR 1-10 with MOA holdover/wind calls and the...
Let me know what you find! I have a 12.5" Faxon Match Big Gunner that shoots about the same as your Monster barrel, but want more since the 12.5" 6mm ARC is very capable out to extended ranges.
Thought I'd update - I've sold all of my Grendel components in favor of 6mm ARC. The two cartridges are so similar that I decided it wasn't worth keeping both.
In short, my thoughts on the 6mm ARC vs Grendel:
Extends the range for supersonic flight quite a bit
Provides MUCH greater...
I've shot for confirmation out to 700 yards. Consistent hits (i.e. 5/5 once dialed) on a 4" plate so confirmed at that distance. My next plate was at 1200 yards and my magazine started malfunctioning. Every other shot the bolt would outrun the mag and dent the case badly. Happened with two...
I'm looking for max accuracy from this build. Would love to know firsthand results on accuracy expectations. My 18" Proof shoots consistently half moa and I'd love to come as close to that as possible with the 12.5".
Considering this and other barrel options.
Thanks so much!
For reference - a couple OCWs with 105 Bergers over Varget and 58 VMax over xbr8208. 18" proof Carbon. Shoot well under moa with both 105 and 108 factory loads as well. My 12.5" Faxon prints into 1.5" with 105s and 2" with 108s at 100 for 10 shot groups. My barrel started to group...
