New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
I am no fanboy of ANYONE......but I can absolutely see the validity of 50 barrels sent back over the span of a year. That is less than 5 barrels a months......that is nothing for a volume seller.
In my experience, the previous comment was spot on. When you ramp up production and cut back QAQC...
Just an FYI.....
Unless an Altus barrel is laser engraved as a prefit on the underside of the barrel......the barrel is machined as a match to the action. I do not cut a generic loose thread fit/headspace unless it is specified as a prefit. The barrel above may or may not fit on a different...
You might be able to clean this chamber up with a finish reamer and bump to correct headspace. If the reamer is super sharp and your bushing fits perfect it might clean up that freebore or any other off-center cutting......but in my experience the new cutter will try and follow the old hole...
Obviously there are issues with that barrel. For what its worth it is an absolute pain to do 223 with any of the standard spec reamers......all of them have very little freebore diameters. I am talking .0002" (.0001 per side) to .0000".......yes thats right .0000"
For general use, I use a jgs...
I would think that the firing pin spring strength and the angle of the cocking ramp couple with bolt handle length and swing are the factors that effect bolt opening. If you are fighting your trigger on bolt opening, something is binding and needs investigated. Depending on what it defined as...
Since annealing has become as common as trimming nowadays......over working the necks has really become a non-issue. Shooters are more focused on ease of reloading and 100% reliability. I use a .274 neck and .120 freebore on 1.5 degree lead angle. You can get more fine tuned for a specific...
Based on what I have heard so far. I would build the following:
- 6creed
- 20" #4 bull sporter (or smallest contour that leaves enough meat for 5/8-24 threading)
- carbon Manners T/A.....bedded......no mini chassis.
- fed by AICS pattern
- everything else is personal preference.
Not sure what...
A 243win has killed a metric shit ton of deer in the midwest for decades. So......I vote 6creed if you rely on factory ammo OR if you reload, something in that 85-110gr @3000-3200fps range that is boring reliable and components/tools are cheap and everywhere.

I am not saying Manners is without fault. No doubt their are some final inspection issues.
I guess you need to decide as a consumer if Manners can fill your stock needs. It seems like there are plenty of other customers who do......hence the lead-time and company growth. Perhaps this is part of...
I want to give my $.02 (probably not even worth that.....haha).
Tom Manners and his company have rightfully earned their reputation by supporting our niche in the firearms industry for decades now. Since meeting Tom in 2006 and working with him and his crew through the years, I say with...
I really like a spring only kit from the glockstore.
Its easy to install and you don't get into geometry trouble with changing out hard parts.
I think this is the best thing......keeping the glock reliable.....while improving the feel of the trigger.
