Preference for basic die sets - RCBS, Forster, Hornady or other?

My Lee seaters are marked. With a sharpie!

Preference for basic die sets - RCBS, Forster, Hornady or other?

Lee get a bad rap and I’m sure there’s a reason but I’ve never had a minute’s trouble with them. Same with Hornady. I can’t say as much about RCBS. What I actually use now is Redding, Forster, and SAC.

    338 06

I had much better luck using 35 Whelen and downsizing. Lube inside the case neck good and you won’t have a problem either way. I always wondered if buying a mandrel and tapering down then end to the desired size would make easier expanding on wildcats.

Substitute for unobtanium (to me) primers?

I’d be willing to bet if you have CCI 200s then you can trade them for the ones you want. The 200s are the gold standard at my house and many others.

Stop all that prep, oh and seating tests are bullshit, love Hornady

All the shit talking about Hornady, mine included, I’m loving the 166 A-Tips @ 2784 out of my 7-08 AI. Maybe their statements are correct but need to be correlated against the same test with factory ammo. I did do some 30 round testing on CCI 200s vs White River Energetics and it’s a...

Stop all that prep, oh and seating tests are bullshit, love Hornady

I’m not suggesting that they are. I’m suggesting they’re trying to keep people who are buying their factory ammo from reloading by implying there’s nothing to gain.

Stop all that prep, oh and seating tests are bullshit, love Hornady

By far their largest profit comes from factory ammo. Why would they try to persuade the reloader that they can make better ammo. Yes they sell equipment and components, but it’s a small part of their market. If they convince people to reload, they will quickly determine that there’s better...

    SDand FPs problems

I would think with that low of a charge your rifle is running very dirty and making your suppressor filthy. Without the suppressor you would be seeing black smoke out the end of the barrel. You may be anyway. H4350 will burn clean (ish) at proper case fill. It is an ignition problem like you...

What are the Cons of Folding Stocks?

Hell I’m in for the dick thing. My old school Manners has to go. My cheek piece has an Allan screw but I can get a finger operated one to replace it. What’s the mechanics of the folding? Tool free? Easier carrying can be relevant but it would also be heavier I assume.

What are the Cons of Folding Stocks?

I see a mention of cleaning. What is the actual purpose of a folder? Is it that hard to pull the cheek piece?

    Does "Over-Annealing" Impact Shot Dynamics?

Cleaned in the left vs not. You may be able to see it but feeling it is significant. That’s 0000 steel wool.

Full length sizing after that stretch!

Once the die is seated on the shell holder firmly you’re not going to get any more sizing by screwing it in further. You may have to experiment with shell holders or take a few thousandths off the mouth of the die. They make shell holder kits for this. The die will have to be done on a lathe...

    TAC powder in 7mm-08

TAC is too fast for the 140s and maybe for the 120s. If you have plenty of it I’d concentrate on the 2700. I’m aware that’s not exactly what you were asking. If you want to use the TAC, look at 4895 load data and start low. FIRST I would start by comparing TAC to 4895. I wouldn’t trust...

Question about higher end trickler systems vs Chargemasters

My Matchmaster is 22 seconds for 42.5g of Varget. That leaves me 8-10 seconds to not breath in its general direction after seating a bullet. It don’t like that. I only use it in match mode and it is plenty accurate for my needs. I loaded 106 rounds yesterday with 5 overthrows. All 5 were .06...

    First Press (Single vs Turret)

I started with single stage presses and hate resetting dies. I wound up with three singles lined up doing pistol. I then got a T-7 and a Zero. I could have stopped at the T-7 and all would have been right in the world. The Zero while very nice is unnecessary. Get the T-7.
