New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
To build a 300 NM that requires a Lapua bolt face (0.585"). A Surgeon XL is a VERY beefy and strong action. If you decide to give that a look hit me up.
The only way to bump a shoulder is to make it contact that surface in the die itself. Either by raising the bottom of the case higher by going from the 0.010 shell holder to the 0.002. Or if that doesn't work screw the die in further to lower the die in the press. If you have done both and the...
No one, no one has built a "do it all" rifle because it does not exist.
There are concessions you are going to have to make either way. You will either end up with a handy, light rifle for hunting that may not be the best for recoil and spotting shots (due to weight) and may not shoot longer...
They way the Norma based cases (7-300NM, 7HULK) beat the 7RUM, 28 Nosler, 7LRM is that they use the Lapua bolt face 0.585" and not a smaller magnum bolt face 0.550". So a fatter case = more volume with equal case length.
I disagree. There may not be an accuracy difference in group size at short range. But there most certainaly are differences in the ability of the aforementioned calibers to get equal bullets up to equal speed. The 7LRM for instance is optimized for shooting 180 grain bullets. Trying to put a...
Get the action and trigger that you like the most. All top quality actions are going to have about the same effect. I have a complete Surgeon 300 NM in an A5 with a Jewell. That setup is very familiar to me and that particular rifle shoots incredibly well. Like, not normal. I've been fortunate...
You are approavhing this incorrectly IMO. Pick a bullet you want to shoot, then pick a speed you want to shoot it. Then after that the caliber picks itself. If you are sticking with not fire forming or a certain brand of brass then, that's fine but it further limits your options. A 7-300 Norma...
If you have been wanting to or saying "one of these days I'll shoot a match" then make it happen. Get off your rear and sign up.
If that is not your thing then so be it. But competitive shooting will show you your weaknesses faster than anything else. You will never do some of the things that...
JAE are solid stocks but they are extremely heavy. Which may be a good thing, especially for larger calibers. For me personally thought the angled grip does not suit me.
The holes I'm pointing to was 3 shots at 100 just before I shot the 3 round group at 1000 pictured above.
I could try that 1000 more times and probably couldn't make it happen again back to back like that. Got really lucky.
Certainly a cherry picked group but that's 3 shots at 1000.
Surgeon 300 Norma Mag
Surgeon XL Action
Surgeon DBM
Jewel trigger
McMillan A5
The rifle is silly accurate.
That is also why some actions notch the feed ramp, like Surgeon, so that the tip of the bullet has more clearance to get over the lip of the feed ramp.
No man not at all. You should be happy with your spent money ;).
Yes long loaded ammo can get under the feed ramp just like you stated and not work properly. Other times slightly bending the very front edge of the feed lips on a mag will allow the round to angle up slightly and provide enough...
