Building lightweight AR10 - VSeven Harbinger vs 2A Xanthos Lite vs other?

A pic of the not quite so lightweight carbine, but you get the idea of how compact a 16" 308 is... PS the TR24 is also quite lightweight and is a great choice for a short/medium range carbine

Building lightweight AR10 - VSeven Harbinger vs 2A Xanthos Lite vs other?

+1 on the 308 for a 16 inch barrel for a short/medium range rifle. Also if you don't want to sink $$$ into a Proof barrel the Criterion 16" hybrid with rifle gas a are really quite a nice option. I recently screwed one together to replace a heavier/longer barrel and I couldn't believe how much...

Night Vision N Vision Halo XRF vs IRay RH50R

I haven't looked through an Iray to directly compare, but have some time behind other units like the Super Yoter. The image quality of the XRF is really outstanding, and the rangefinder works fine. It doesn't have an integrated ballistic calculator though.

    Differences among the Binocular NODs

My experience is with 31D's. My friends have older green phosphor L3's that still have decent specs, and every single one of them were very impressed by the Elbit WP tubes. They don't quite have the sensitivity of the really high spec L3 Harris stuff but they are very clean, the resolution is...

    WTF barrel worms?

After reading about issues like this I have moved to at least a brief cleaning after every time I shoot. I used to be in the camp to never clean until accuracy falls off. I absolutely agree that leaving the barrel wet overnight with Hoppes is very effective as a start. Now for those who have...

    6.5 Creedmoor 100gr ELD-VT + Varget Load Development

Varget works fine, but for 95-100 gr class bullets in the Creedmoor 8208 XBR works awesome! Somewhere in the 39-40 gr range should make in the 3150-3200 fps range. I had better consistency with 8208 vs Varget under 95 Vmaxes. 4064 is a similar burn rate to Varget and I see no reason it would...

    16-18 inch shorty rifles

It makes me feel like the featured rifle in the picture has entirely too long of a barrel to be in this thread and has no business being posted here.

    First AR10/LR308 build.. Barrel questions

Get something like a Criterion or a Craddock RTR. Not only is the barrel important for accuracy, but also for reliability. Use a good quality bolt like JP. Scrimp on other parts but these are much more crucial. I recently put together a 16" 308 carbine for my brother with a Criterion hybrid...

The Cheapest AR-10? BCA-10 First Look

Not sure this is valid, there are other good receivers set options that are WAY cheaper than $530, and would allow the choice of good quality components to finish the build. Also, 4 inch groups is quite poor accuracy. I cant imagine being satisfied with that even shooting bulk ball ammo. That...

    16-18 inch shorty rifles

I would have gotten the Roughtech version, but I am not sure I realized it was available in that contour when I went blued steel/walnut. The biggest benefit is mine has a metric 15x1 barrel thread that needs an adapter, compared to yours which is 5/8x24. As an out of the box option I think...

    FN 18" Hybrid Barrel

That is an amazing deal! I have a Palmetto PA-10 which came with a hybrid contour 18" rifle gas 308 barrel, and it is a soft-shooting and fairly accurate barrel for being a duty-grade CHF/CL barrel. No complaints here. I don't think it will be as accurate as a premium hand lapped stainless...

    Magpul 700 Pro Lite users

I think when the chassis came out everyone thought that it was a budget product like the Hunter and was overpriced. Contrary to this I have found it very solid, adjustable, and robust. The folding mechanism on the Pro chassis locks up extremely tight with no wobble. I really don't have...

    Magpul 700 Pro Lite users

I don't have experience with the Pro Lite, but do have a Pro 700 chassis, which is the same chassis and grip but a different stock setup (and a fair amount heavier). People talk alot of crap about the Pro 700 chassis but I and my shooting partners have found the ergos to be just as good as...

    5.56 accuracy

Some of the JSE Surplus stuff were turned from Wilson blanks, which also used to be a good budget option... Fairly sure my favorite Nordic barrel used a Wilson blank. Some of these shot way better than their price point

    5.56 accuracy

Get a different barrel if it is consistently less accurate than what you seek despite trying multiple types of ammo. Some people get so wrapped up trying to get a turd to shoot, they spend as much money on ammo/components as the cost difference for a better barrel. A decent barrel doesn't...

Reliable AR10 style that's reliable for "plinking"?

I have 2 PSA PA-10's, one was a receiver set that I assembled with a Criterion barrel, other was a complete rifle. Both have been fine. They are an adequate platform for this. The complete rifle has been exceptional, but this was from a first run of them that PSA did with premium parts (NiB...

.22 creedmoor fad or just starting

I think it is going to be here awhile. I am putting one together. I specifically was looking for a fast/flat low recoil cartridge for shooting at night, and preferred a 22 caliber. The funny thing is that despite being the new kid on the block, brass is just as easy to find with better brand...

    308 AR10 Build Info/Picture Thread

While some may decry PSA, their large frame receivers are very serviceable as long as you keep an extra bolt catch or two on hand. This is coming from a guy who has used a bunch of receiver sets from old school DPMS to LMT to SR-25. Very functional basic build.

    Advice on thermal clip on

You lost us with "Iray" and "work with 10x magnification minimum..." How much demag does the unit have? It will have to be a premium unit with lots of demag to support more than 10-12x mag... The imaging quality provided in many reviews of units like this are deceptive

    16-18 inch shorty rifles

While much less exotic, figured this thread could use a classic. T3X Ranch Rifle. Currently has a Dead Air Primal on it, but will be getting a Griffin Sportsman UL to lighten it up even further. Scope is a Ten Mile 3-18 FFP which despite its length is actually quite lightweight.
