What did you do in the reloading room today?

How long did you wet tumble them? Unusually, my Giraud cleans up all the peening I might get whenever I wet tumble with SS pins. Though it's rare that I wet tumble with SS pins. Whenever I wet tumble, I don't use any media at all. I only happened to use SS pins when there's dirt or mud stuck...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Yeah, I thought maybe that particular case didn't have enough lube. Though the effort to remove the case out of the die didn't seem particularly hard. I was using a lot of lube (Imperial Sizing Die Wax) and cases were extracting plenty easy and in a couple instances, I got that dreaded "too...

Berry tumbler question and fine grit stuck in flash hole

I use rice as well . . . all the time. Definitely don't use long grain rice, as they'll certainly stick in a lot of flash holes. I use "medium" grain rice which has a larger diameter than long grain rice. Though the larger grain rice doesn't get stuck in flash holes, a few of them tend to be...

    .308 Winchester

I've got a couple Alpha mags that'll take COAL's of that length (2.979"). But I don't know if Alpha is still doing business or if there are suppliers that have them???

    Bench setup and workflow help

After retiring and downsizing to a smaller home, I don't have much space and have a workbench in my garage about the size of the short section of your bench. My bench sits on base kitchen cabinets with wall cabinets above for storage. And next to the bench is full length storage cabinets...

    Fouling past the case neck

I've not had this issue due to not enough bullet in the neck, at least . . . bit with the .308's and 6.5 PRC is load to. I tend to load long, as I start out at .010 off the lands. Often, I easily only have just .200 - .217 of the neck holding onto the bearing surface. I should mention too...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Since I want to fire form some cases that I can measure their case volume, I’ve annealed, sized, prepped and loaded up 10 cases that I’ll also measure velocity to get some idea for velocity with a load of IMR-4064 that I’ve used before. Primers that were removed were reseated to the same depth...

What did you do in the reloading room today?

Had and interesting time today in my reloading room after receiving my order of 100 6.8x51 Hybrid cases. First thing, I took measurements to see what I'm dealing with as I prepare to size them into a .308 case. Other than having to expand the neck, it was interesting to see the OD difference...

    .308 Winchester

That's not very realistic out of a! I've got some hybrid cases delivered that I plan to play with. . . but I'm sure not going to see where the fatigue limit is on my firearm. 😵‍💫 I was reading an article about some of the testing the military was doing where they expected the pressure limit...

Neck Tension Inconsistencies on Lapua 6.5CM Brass

Those neck mouths sure look peened. So, it still looks that way after trimming? I wouldn't think it'd still look like that after running them through you Henderson with a 3 way cutting head???

Is it worth reloading precision ammo on a single stage versus progressive press?

Using a press where you can swap dies out quickly is a big asset when you're experimenting, like taking a close look (measurement) at each stage for a case to get all the dies set to give you what you want on the final outcome. This is why I like my Forster Co-Ax as well as the not so cheap...

Neck Tension Inconsistencies on Lapua 6.5CM Brass

Actually, I've seen that happen within the same lot too, but that much is pretty rare. It makes me think a few leftovers from one lot is mixed with a new lot??? ;)

Neck Tension Inconsistencies on Lapua 6.5CM Brass

Apparently, when you refer to the "body of the bullet" you're referring the the Bearing Surface. Several years ago now, I discovered this difference in bearing surfaces between lots with two different lots of 168 SMK's where there was a difference of .033". So I sorted through them and set...

Velocity differences between 6.5cm brass brands

I think the best you can do when mixing headstamps is to measure each case's cases volume/capacity (not weight) and that should be a close as you can get for consistent velocities between them. Keep in mind there are other issues going on, like differences in the thickness and the alloy...

Velocity differences between 6.5cm brass brands

Yes, reduced case capacity will increase velocity. To what extent depends on by how much it's reduced. There does tend to be a significant difference between Hornady brass compared to Federal brass. . . on average. Because there can be significant difference from one lot of brass to another...

Neck Tension Inconsistencies on Lapua 6.5CM Brass

Speaking of engine oil. . . Back in the mid '70's when I had been working in the aircraft industry, a bunch of synthetic oils for auto's came out (synthetics was normal for aircraft and I always wondered why not for autos). One of the oils that came out touted how effective their additive was...

    Chambering issue after expander mandrell.

If one has a bolt that has a spring loaded ejector pin, that pin puts pressure on the cartridge as you lock the bolt down, which will push that unsized portion of the neck more tightly into the chamber and this is where you get the more centering effect. Otherwise, the looseness due to...

Neck Tension Inconsistencies on Lapua 6.5CM Brass

Maybe ditch that expander ball and get a ball with a better design? Or better yet, ditch the expander ball all together and expand the neck with a seperate operation with an expander mandrel??? I find the latter to produce much more consistent results.

    Chambering issue after expander mandrell.

Because bushing dies don't size all the way down to the neck-shoulder junction, is the reason I use a non-bushing FL sizing die. But. . . there's something many reloaders like about the bushing die other than controlling and minimizing the work put onto on the neck, which is. . . that part of...

    Primer seating depth?

I'd say when one is happy with their process . . . IMHO, that's all that really counts. :giggle:
