Not many heavy barrel 223’s anymore?

I built a .223 on a Gen 1 Nucleus using a PVA .223 barrel with a pretty heavy profile / HS Precision adjustable stock. Has shot lights out for 10,000+ rounds. I'm going to be sad when I have to replace it because the barrel has just been amazing. I'm waiting for a Sako 90 Varmint in .223, if...

    Tikka T1X best aftermarket trigger

It should work on T1x, question will be whether it works at the same pull weights.

Will carbon fiber rimfire barrels do well in competition?

Heat isn't an issue, nor should be vibration. I struggle to think where in rimfire the cost of CF would outweigh just adding 10% in external diameter to the barrel, if you thought you needed more stiffness. A lot of Proof's success and market share is likely a result of just using really good...

Modacam Custom Rifles ModX has landed.

That looks nuts. Shoot a box at 100 and post the group.

Sooo... Any good 2024 Black Friday deals we should be keeping an eye out for?

I just bought a RCBS Chargemaster Link for what should be ~$175 after the rebate shows up. Midway has them on sale for $250 shipped, with free shipping and RCBS is running a $75 rebate on them. I actually just went into the local Cabelas with a printout of the Midway ad and they price matched.

    Aero Solus 223 bolt face

I don't think they are going for ultra light - just lighter weight hunting actions. It weighs ~20% less than the standard Solus. None of the barrel choices even make sense with this new offering yet. I was hoping to see them offering lighter profiles. Never mind - they have sporter profile...

    Aero Solus 223 bolt face

30 oz sounds right. CDG is listed at 27 oz and appears to have material even more aggressively removed.

Sooo... Any good 2024 Black Friday deals we should be keeping an eye out for?

Any other barrel makers? PVAs prices are pretty high this year.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Good Trigger for a Glock 19 Gen 5

FWIW, I have thousands and thousands of rounds on Gen 5 triggers. Unless yours is wonky, you have to spend a LOT of money to get a better trigger. They are the best trigger Glock has ever made. You do need to make sure you lube and clean the connection points every few thousands rounds...

Tikka T1X Broken Firing Pin Poll

8000 + rounds, only incidental (mag empty) dry fire. Not broken yet.

What KYL target are you using?

ShootingTargets7 is hands down the best value in KYL. Get one, ask him about ordering longer legs (1+ foot longer). Alternatively you can just buy some conduit and do it yourself. I'm also a huge fan of these from Atlas Target Works -...

    What about FN .264 LICC?

This is just another way of providing "overmatch" the DOD buzzword for "we are willing to spend lots of money to be able to better kill you than you can kill us". So, being able to hold enemy infantry (wearing ceramic body armor) at risk at out to 500 - 700 yards, instead of 100-200 yards, from...

I want a new hunting bolt gun

Another vote for the Howa barreled action. Everything you want, way under the price you are looking for. Or buy a Tikka and have the barrel cut down and threaded. I have the 20" Solus in .308. It is pretty heavy for hunting, even with their fluting. Bug Aero about offering a lightish weight 18"...

Short 308win barrel twist rate for subs/why no fast twist 308 barrels?

I had a 1:8 with thousands of rounds on it. I think you start to be asking a lot of .308 to have it perform well with subs. I know that Swiss P makes some .308 subs. But I think that internal case volume is an issue for consistent muzzle velocity. I won't buy another 1:8 because the spin drift...

    338 ARC

I honestly won't be surprised if as the requisite gun magazine articles start rolling out Hornady tells us this was just a request/project from the same folks who want 6mm ARC. Because those same folks already have the bolt/mags for this round, and are likely the one edge case where 50% more...

    338 ARC

I would think as long as you have the clearance (i.e. + .338 diameter on can), shouldn't be any issue. Still a very low pressure round with little powder, compared to a most rounds.

Hera H6 - Anyone handled one?

Supposedly they are in Europe and Canada already. US version is .223 Wylde and 300 Blk, 16, AR Mag (fed from side), great trigger, light weight. Looks like a Hera reskin of the Voere S16. Feels like it could be a smoother version of the Ruger Ranch, with arguably better ergos and ability to...

9mm Bolt Action Rifle - Looking for people with experience with the manufacturer (Curtis Tactical)

They didn't run right, and I think he went back to making cans. I don't think you can really control round feed with a 9mm, or at least this action doesn't, over the distance it is trying to cover. They used Rem 700 geometry, so the bolt is trying to move a 9mm projectile 2-3 inches, but not...

    HK----HK USA!

So... A Uintah AR10 both with a different bolt/upper setup to avoid patents? I've been wanting the Uintah prices to come down. This is moving in the OPPOSITE direction. Not sure what the use case is for this thing, unless it is delivering 1/4 MOA with FGMM, plenty of folks would rather pay less...

    .223 Twist Rate

7.5 is great. You can shoot 77s, 80s. I wouldn't sweat it. You may even see slightly better accuracy on 55s, which it sounds like you want.
