9mm Bolt Action Rifle - Looking for people with experience with the manufacturer (Curtis Tactical)

We're not looking for zero recoil, and decent .22 LR isn't much cheaper than 9mm in my neck of the woods. Plus 9mm has a longer effective range for how I plan on using it. I want the ability to train quietly, not not spend 300 BO prices.

9mm Bolt Action Rifle - Looking for people with experience with the manufacturer (Curtis Tactical)

Ok, thats a huge update. I had encourage him to look at push feed as opposed to control feed. I'd love to get this thing working, but as it is, it basically is just sitting in the safe. With mine, the ejector would often just punch through the rim of the cartridge, if everything wasn't perfectly...

    ruger american 223/5.56

I have the earlier version that takes the Ruger rotary mag instead of the AR mags. Wish I had the AR mag version. I was planning on putting it in a Magpul Hunter, but Magpul couldn't handle the two versions, at least as of a few years ago. As it is, it is a pretty good option for a ranch or farm...

    300 blackout bolt gun

Lot of good info in this thread. It will cost about the same ($500) to build a .300 BO AR upper as it would to get a Ruger American. Both would likely teach you over time that the round is really a solution in search of a problem. I think it has certain military applications, where you need a...

    quick change barrel actions

If you want real quick change (hex keys only), and not action wrench/prefit setups, you are looking at Barrett, AI, Blaser, and a few others, most of which seem to start at 4k+ or so for a rifle, and 1k or so for a barrel.

    MDT ACC Elite

If you are lucky enough to have a Left Handed Howa mini-action or snag the one Tikka LSS-XL blem in neon pink. Oh and that is assuming you can actually get their website to load. Good luck.

Quietest (least loud) 100-115 yard gun/ammo that isn't suppressed? Shotgun and AR15 are too loud for my yard (7 acres, neighbors aren't that close).

Is OP trolling us? Or does OP live in a state where suppressors aren't legal? No suppressor, for varmints/neighbors, you want .17 HMR or .22 Hornet. Other options are .300 Blackout Subs, or 8.6 Blackout. But really, at that point, I'd also look at .44 Mag or Special in a lever, loaded subsonic...

Am I the only one that doesn't get the Fix Q?

I don't know why people bash the gun. We should be happy to see innovation, and options. The Fix is a huge improvement on the Scout Rifle concept - it knocks it out of the park with weight, overall size, mag options. Doesn't mean it is for everyone, or even most folks. Q isn't the biggest...

    KRG BRAVO chasis ?

That setup looks every penny of 6K. Very jealous, hope it shoots great.

Is 1:8 twist too fast for .308?

I have a 16" .308. I wish it was a 1:10, but if I wanted to try to shoot subs, I wouldn't blink at getting a 1:8. That said if I wanted to shoot .30 cal subs I'd just run .300 Blackout. I shoot mostly 168, and it shoots fine. It is way less forgiving with bonded hunting rounds. Anything not...

.308 win barrel length 20" or 24" for 830 yards

EBBIV - You can hit steel with a 12" .308 at 1000, or even 2000, if you have enough elevation in the turrets, and enough ammo. The issue with rounds like .308 or .223, that generally don't stay supersonic (faster than the speed of sound) out to 1000 or beyond, is that 1) many types of bullets...

.308 win barrel length 20" or 24" for 830 yards

As everyone has said, for that use case, go with the 24". You should have another 100 FPS+ over the 20" which should get 168 supersonic out past 900 at least. I have a 16" .308 and I think I'm transonic around 750 yards or so, with FGMM.

WTF is going on with KAC stuff?

I've been a KAC fan for years. Bought an SR15 Mod 0, still runs like a champ. But we have a few M110s and SR25s at work. One of the ambi charging handle catches broke, maybe two years ago, leaving a sharp, ragged edge. Contacted their gov folks, who wanted the serial number, to validate it was a...

    223 Trainer OR 308 // Rifle Selection

I have a .22LR precision rig, and a range with rimfire steel out to 200 or so. What I reach for the most often is my .223 bolt. I can shoot .55 gr FMJ pretty accurately out to 350 or so, 69 SMK a fair amount further. 22LR really needs thin steel to be responsive when you start getting out there...

Open-source 3D model for rifle chassis

I made a TC Contender forend because I wanted one with a rail, in a certain length, and there was absolutely no option out there on the market. It has worked perfectly, but I bet I had about twenty revisions before the final one - easy to do on a 3d printer, maybe harder on CNC. Remington 700...

Tikka T3 - 6.5 Creed ~$1000 KRG Bravo Stock - $350 Nightforce SHV 4-14 F1 - $1000 Rings - $75 For $2500 or so you'd have a setup that would take you out to 1000 pretty easily and have good resale. You could save some money by looking for a Howa or Bergara barreled action, find a used Rem700...

Best subsonic round out to 200 yards

Going another direction, you could just throw a can on varmint rounds. 17 HMR, 22 Hornet, etc, should have way less muzzle blast than a .223, and be way more useful out to 200 depending on how big a thing you are shooting at. .22LR at 200 is spotty with ANY wind, never mind trying to use...

tikka 20" 308; is it enough for 1000 yards?

Any calculator should tell you if you'll make it. My 16" with 168s goes transonic somewhere between 750 and 800 usually (sea level), which makes 1000 pretty spotty. I would think as long as you're dropping subsonic after 900, you should be good, and you might be subsonic a little after 1000...
