Gunsmithing Factory Remington 700 bolt issues

This issue wasn't your bolt or your extractor. Something caused extreme high pressure. Wrong powder, wrong load, partially plugged barrel, wrong barrel, etc. --Jerry

    Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

Generally this happens, and I've seen it twice, to get around zoning laws. I'm sure they wanted to do something that is allowed only "on the same level as the garage". I my home town a guy wanted to build a 3rd story to get an ocean view. Zoning allowed one story above the garage. He asked...

Gunsmithing Our latest barrel fluting effort.

By starting with such a large diameter blank and removing material so deep while leaving the structural web at a large diameter you maximize your stiffness to weight ratio. Most fluting I consider more for looks than function but this one removes a lot of weight while keeping it stiff. --Jerry

    Gunsmithing tool holders

Yes, I refer to that as the "golden age of ebay". When ebay came into existence, apparently at a inventory management conference somewhere someone presented a paper about the opportunity to get rid of old tooling on ebay and the managers went back with direction to "put it all on ebay now"...

    Gunsmithing tool holders

You need 3 or 4 different sizes of boring bars, a good threading setup, a profiling tool or 2, and roughing tools. CNMG makes a good rougher V-shaped inserts are good for profiling. Lost of different threading options and all are good. Solid carbide is superior for boring bars but expensive in...

    Gunsmithing Help, Rockwell Lathe Model

A lathe that size can mangle your arm or even kill you in a skinny minute. If you're new to lathe operations, read up on lathe safety before you do any more work on it.

    Gunsmithing Brass shavings on boltface...

Your bolt face is rough. You can see the impressions of the machining marks in the primers. INdeed, that is a hot load bsed on primer flow.

Gunsmithing Rem 700 Barrel thread specs

I have seen those threads before. In fact, a new lathe owner on another forum sent me his thread problem and I diagnosed it for him. That thread was likely cut with a correct 60 degree tool. However, the you-tube educated smith set his compound at 29.5 degrees to turn in to cut the threads...

Help. 6.5 Creedmoor loads showing pressure signs??

Cratering is caused by a firing pin hole on the order of .080". Contrary to some belief, it isn't a loose fitting firing pin. When a modern high pressure round goes off, the pressure extrudes the brass from the primer into the firing pin hole. It just pushes the firing pin up out of the way...

    Gunsmithing Action screw torque

How did you check? the only way to check is to mark the heads of the screws, back them off, and then increase torque until you get them to the same place. Torque required to loosen is meaningless.
