I've had good luck with 77's over N540.

Range Report Debunking Courtney's stability myths

To be totally frank, the first time I read Courtney's papers, I though that he was an engineering student at the AF Academy, because that's how his papers read. Pretty good for someone just learning the craft, but totally devoid of the usual scientific rigor and insight that you find when you...

Range Report Can velocity compensate for twist rate?

Ah - I see what he's saying. Never mind. Just a little unclear is all.

FL vs Neck Sizing...Truth or Myths?

The trouble with neck sizing is that it works great until it doesn't. Eventually, something gets stuck.

FL vs Neck Sizing...Truth or Myths?

The "benchrest guys do it" reasoning isn't really even valid. Lots of BR guys full length size (they may use custom dies and do it the absolute bare minimum required, but it's still full length sizing). There's an argument to be made that it's better than neck sizing because it allows for more...

Range Report Can velocity compensate for twist rate?

You better read the above answer again, because you just contradicted it.

Range Report Which Published Berger BCs Are From Predictions Rather than Measurements?

For those jumping over from the other Berger thread, allow me to save you some reading and summarize: Michael: Berger says all their BC's are measured. They're lying. Berger: Yeah, sorry about that. We misspoke. Only the BCs for bullets where people actually are about BCs are measured. The...

Range Report nonlinear ballistic curve... IE: dope not matching

In my experience *at mid range and shorter* (important qualifier), it's not that hard to get the trajectory to match within roughly 1/4 MOA. you do have to put all of the the relevant numbers in very accurately, but it's doable. Whether or not the scope can get there is another issue. Very...

Range Report nonlinear ballistic curve... IE: dope not matching

If you're off even a little at 600, it's a garbage in garbage out problem. Even a non-stepped G1 (assuming it's right) should be pretty much dead on. Screwing around with kludged BCs is going to cause you headaches. Stepped BCs (aka custom drag functions) come into play at long range- well past...

I'm actually amazed that they have a website.

Rifle Scopes Looking for a good long range scope under $3000

You need to do some more research. The NF competition and Leupold Mk4 are not even remotely similar scopes. The Nightforce is great (I have one), but it's a very different scope than your typical FFP "tactical" scope. It's very high magnification, has a tiny exit pupil, not a whole lot of...

Rifle Scopes What the hell to do?

+1 for "Needs to adjust the eyepiece". Parallax shouldn't mess with the clarity of the reticle.

    Range Report 175 SMK unstable

Double check your twist (and bullets - you never know) before getting into any of the more esoteric voodoo. They should be stable enough not to notice any yaw.

Rifle Scopes New Steiner T5Xi Tactical Rifle Scopes

To add a little more detail, any set of lenses will cause optical imperfections known as aberrations. Chromatic aberration is when the light from different colors focuses differently. Spherical aberration is when light focuses differently at on the edge of the lens than it does at the center...

    Can a .223 do that?

I suspect it's more complicated than just the barrel, and probably has to do with the way it's attached to the front gas block part (whatever it's called), and therefore the stock. It seems like the vibrations are just about perfectly wrong. That would make sense given the monsterous barrel...

    Can a .223 do that?

I'm more inlined to believe a .223 punching through 1/2" of steel than a mini 14 hitting anything at 200 yards. Seriously, though, I've seen soft point .223 go through 3/8" steel at 50 yards, so it doesn't seem crazy that FMJ would do it at 200. It would have to be soft steel, though.

So dialing from hard stop to hard stop, top to bottom, is a total of 24 mils of adjustment? Is that correct?

Rifle Scopes New Steiner T5Xi Tactical Rifle Scopes

What does that mean? Can you dial 100 MOA or just 24 mils (~82 MOA)?
