New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
The bolt body and action body are SS, but I don't think any of the smaller parts in the bolt assembly like the cocking piece, shroud, etc are SS. I've seen all of those parts rust when the bolt and action were fine.
Are you looking at the bolt shroud where the cocking piece sits? I don't think those were SS even on the Stainless actions.
They were just regular parts painted silver AFAIK. The easy thing that I can think of is to just cerakote it and you won't have any issues.
We built a few shorty 6.5 PRC's for guys using them in tree stands; all at 16.5"
With factory ammo the 140 ELDm and 143 ELDx ammo was going 2800-2850 for both ammo types in all the barrels. Basically it worked out that a 16.5" PRC was the equivalent to a 26" 6.5 Creed.
We live in a state that requires manually operated firearms only, so no AR's are allowed for big game hunting.
I built a 6mm Creedmoor on a Rem 700 action with a 16.5" barrel for my older son. It's been extremely effective on whitetails from point blank out to 540yd so far; he's been using it...
You're not factually incorrect that their shipping lead times are long around a sale. I think your expectations are skewed by understanding who you're comparing them to.
I think you stated it perfectly in your response "It is what it is."
That read like a complaint, which is why I said what I did. A couple of years ago I shut a sale down early because the response was higher than we expected and I didn't want to get too far behind on delivery times. We fielded quite a few phone calls of people angry that the sale stopped early...
We use Lubriplate 1340a on threads, locking lugs and cocking cam surfaces. Pretty much everything does the job from high contact pressure, moly/sulfur grease to a light white lith grease. However the reason we use the 1340a and not some of the sticker, metal flake impregnated ones like Anti...
We don't use any BA barrels here. Our Solus barreled action OEM's use Wilson, Shilen, or Rock as we can get them. Right now we don't have any Rock's in stock so depending on what's orderred it will be a Wilson or Shilen. They shoot very well or we wouldn't use them.
The Solus barreled...
No kidding!
The 3 twist requires the use of copper "solids" and really the only game in town on that specific niche is the Maker bullets. The super fast twist rate tears apart anything that isn't machined/swaged from a solid piece of brass or copper. The RPM makes the bullet open extremely...
Back to the original topic here:
Yes, I've done it. I did it a over decade ago and then proceeded to win a bunch of matches with them. Would Tony Boyer do it? Maybe, maybe not. The difference in me sitting down with a rifle to shoot against Tony has way more to do with the people sitting...
Not really. The stumbling block is the 3 twist barrel. We can go as fast as 7tw and I have some 7tw Rock Creek cut blanks here that would do anything subsonic but it won't make those special Maker bullets turn into copper broadheads. That's why we don't offer the caliber right now.
We run a 16.5" 6mm Creed on my son's rifle for crop damage work on several local farms. With a 6" long suppressor it is still handy getting in and out of vehicles at night. We're running 95 TMK and 87 Vmax both around 3000fps and that combo has been extremely effective on chicken and apple...
