How high to mount scope for long distance?

The answer is up to your size and form. If you are comfortable at 2.7 or 1.8....that's the answer....with bell clearance obviously. For height of scope, I take tube dia ÷2 plus the action dia÷2 plus the space between the two.....and it always seems to work on the prediction.

Please advise on how to donate a rifle for a Scout in need

I'll get his service dates tomorrow at work. I don't want to mix that up.

Please advise on how to donate a rifle for a Scout in need

The value determination is the easy part. It's a fairly common rifle at +/- $450-500ish. My hopes are to find the best marketing strategy to tug the heart strings of people who give a shit vs deal hunters....this is the closest place for people who know what guys like him have accomplished and...

Please advise on how to donate a rifle for a Scout in need

Fellow hide members, I've had the pleasure of working with a great human who's been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Jerry is USMC Scout sniper, patriot and general amazing badass person with terrible cards dealt to him. I'm sitting here with some stuff to trip to help him get through this...

    Gunsmithing Lathe selection

Yonder....my advice is to the op and spec, I don't disagree with what you're saying, but nobody buys a lathe on Monday and starts on inconel or Ti on Tuesday. My advice is to learn on hss because you will bust up carbide in the beginning of your learning curve. Picking up a thread or even...

    Gunsmithing Lathe selection

You assumptions are wrong. I have tooling from hss blanks through carbide and into diamond. My advice is from the experience of a guy who has to buy his own tools and get himself dialed in. If I tell a guy to buy carbide cause it's the best way to learn...and that poor bastard goes to try to...

Initial seating depth while finding the right powder weight

Make sure you're applying the advice you receive to the right components of the game. Taking ammo / equipment advice from an f class guy because he's a great shot can bite you in the real world....I wouldn't take marriage advice from wilt chamberlain just because he drilled 10k ladies. Some f...

    Mile shot calculations

Have you tall target tested this rig? There's more potential stacking there as well.

    Mile shot calculations

If you're going to play the long game, you might as well just pony up for the kestrel. My calculations on g7 inputs were 2 mils off from the kestrel predictions at 2grand. The kestrel was so damn close it's stupid.....but it only works based on what you tell it are facts....so, ENSURE the tall...

    Gunsmithing Lathe selection

I don't have a reason to mess with carbide for threading...I get long life and great finish from hss. There's zero reason for me to change unless I go to a machine that can thread faster than I can now. I'm a user of carbide for bulk stock removal. It all works....but if a guy is asking for...

    Mile shot calculations

If your on at close range and falling from your dope as you move further out....look at your bc. Mv on the short stuff, bc on the far end.

so if a guy wanted some custom screws made.....

Screws are easy enough to make slotted, but once broaching a hex or torx head comes in, that's gonna be rough....unless you can find a screw with the drive style you want in the pitch you need....then it's just contouring and cutting on the lathe.

Initial seating depth while finding the right powder weight

I'd be 20thou plus. From the mag. If you are kissing...little bits matter a bunch. Typically larger jumps are more tolerant of seating depth inconsistencies. If single fed....by all means, stuff it till it shoots. One problem is that most of us can't shoot into the .2's every shot and...

Who has a dueling tree or a plate rack?

We have a dueling tree for 22lr and large pistols....it's a blast. Ours is home built with swap out plates for 22 or bigger.
