New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me
Tell us about the one that got away, the flier that ruined your group, the zero that drifted, the shot you still see when you close your eyes. Winner will receive a free scope!
Pass on the Weaver
It's illumination is way too bright to be useful hunting in low light.
I haven't had a chance to play with the SS 3-15 but reports are good
I didn't like the blue tint to the glass in the originals
The 1 mile version reportedly gets rid of that. That alone would be worth it to me. Add in the brighter display and it would be a no brainer.
I got an ARC 1300 in yesterday and the glass is nice..
I have tested a lot of high end scopes in the field actually hunting in low light.
Even with say a Zeiss FL 4-16x50 or the Premier 3-15x50 I have to back the magnification down to about 12 when it gets dark.
And if is dark enough that I am losing the reticle it better get REALLY dim or it...
Have PRI and Cproducts
I have 2x10rd PRIs that I have been using for 6 years. Never had an issue with them.
I hand load and load 95 TTSX to 2.295 and the PRIs work.
Hunting is big business here.
Even though hogs are a problem for a lot of landowners they can charge to come hunt them if hey want to.
There are more guys that want to hunt than there are places to hunt.
Texas is mainly private land.
I pay 5 grand a year to have a good place to hunt and...
yes sir!
I agree, I got one after testing and it replaced a USO 3-17
The 18" plates appeared as big as the USO at 15
In Texas the heat mirage gets in the way of shooting at really high power and at 12x the field of view is very large as you referenced allowing to call my own shots.
I LOVE...
Interesting point on resolution vs contrast.
For a long range day use scope I would take better resolution.
For a low light hunting scope I would take contrast.
Killed a lot of deer with a 308 and 165 SGK and Accubonds. Switched to 178 AMAX for hunting and long range.
I would say putting one through the heart you need to expect it to run 75 yards or so.
I don't take heart shots unless it is in an open field where I can watch it and easily find it...
I have quite a number if optics and rifles I run but probably my favorite all around hunting scope is my S&B 1.5-6x42 Zenith FD9 reticle.
I have used it a lot on my 16" 6.8 but have moved it to a 280AI for this season.
It is a great scope for hunting up close to out to 400 or so.
Good luck getting a free hunt unless you know someone.
Most land owners simply are not going to let a stranger hunt their property.
Those days are pretty much long gone.
