Interesting take on ELR matches: Mark and Sam

The weather is what it is, and generally the winds build as you move from morning to afternoon. ELR just makes the wind effect more problematic. When we set up the Tonopah 2 Mile event, we knew the winds build on the site so we set up the relay to swap over the course of the multi-relay and...

    Lapua Magnum Ammo

When is the class? How much time do you have to practice? You may find that the ammo you are intending to shoot isn't going to give you a 1 MOA accuracy. Not all ammo shoots in all rifles, regardless who made the ammo. I am more than a bit skeptical that your short 10 twist will fully...

NEW Barnard PLM (.338 LM repeater) w/ Barnard match trigger $950

I have the Barnard PL single shot .338 action and trigger. It is solid, super smooth and strong. If the repeater is like its single shot brother it will be a heck of an action. Jeffvn

    What 7mm for a mile

I hope shooting with us wasn't the kiss of death for that barrel. No doubt a 15" x 22" steel silhouette is a bit spicy from 1,900, 2,000, 2,100, and 2,200 yards. Bring the "A" Game. I don't see you getting much better barrel life out of a bigger 7mm (although I'm itching to try 28 Nosler...

    What 7mm for a mile

Big 7s and big .30s are very similar. Lots a bang sometimes it translates into efficient velocity with big pills sometimes it doesn't. I did a 7/338 Norma Mag back 5 or 6 years ago (roughly 105-106 gr. H2O). No big 7mm bullets beyond the 180s, no good powders to choose from, waste of powder...

March Genesis - 400 MOA in the Turret

My only concern with this scope is that roughly 5 years ago I bought one of the March high magnification 10-60X scopes, a friend got the year later 8-80X magnification version. we both found that they were incredibly dark when anywhere near the max magnification. So i would wait a bit to hear...

    338L improved ??

I could never get anything near that velocity from my .338 l.M., but I loaded everything to feed and be mag length (so the big pills were pushed way back in the case). Jeffvn

Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

Jim Boatright You mention earlier in the thread that most muzzle breaks might actually be inducing yaw at the crown/muzzle based upon the way they handle and divert the gas flow when the projectile has just exited the barrel and is still flying in the gas plume that follows (in reality pushes...

Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

to follow up on what Frank said - these super fast gain twist tubes were made exclusively for shooting solid projectiles. Being a nosy guy, I wanted to see what happened if I shot a jacketed .338 (specifically Sierra 300 Gr. @ 2,950+ fps) from my gain twist barrel (5.4" exit). I was...

    338L improved ??

I got 3,000 fps from my older 10 twist (30" tube), when i swapped to a new 9.3 Bartlein (30" tube), 3k showed too much pressure during the load development, so i dropped to 2,950+. Shoots great at this spot, so I don't really miss the extra velocity. Jeffvn

    ELR Barrel Twist - 7mm

If you running the Jazz or Hulk, the velocities you are going to run are going to be sky high. You could easily run the 8.0 and possibly even an 8.25 and hit Berger's optimum spin rates (assuming you run the 195 @ 3,200 fps). The 180s are fully stable according to Berger's spin calculator...

Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

Frank and I both have a 5.4" exit twist in .338, so its possible to do an acoustic or doppler test for with Flat Line 256s ...

Hyper Stabilized Bullets - Jim Boatright

Yes that is a ZA .338 pill on the left. Frank I think you and I are the only ones who have a 5.4" exit twist .338 barrel. Mine has maybe 250 rounds through it. Sits in my garage up on the wall.

depending on the pill, Warner now has Doppler verified B.C.s on their site. Jeffvn

    ELR Meetings at SHOT Show

My chirping crickets comment had to do mostly with public statements and discussion from the group - specifically regarding some of the observations and potential process changes that will be made going forward in future events and matches. If any of those were made I missed them (other than...

School me about 300 Norma Magnum

I'm sitting on 200 pieces of Norma 300 Norma cases, so i'm locked in on that until it dies. after that i'm all over the Lapua headstamp 300 Norma brass.

School me about 300 Norma Magnum

You are correct demolitionman... .338LM boltface and action. If you are running a std. Magnum Action, 30 Nossler is potentially worth a look.

School me about 300 Norma Magnum

If memory serves it was the winner in the accuracy stages for the newest sniper platform. SOCOM just adopted it as their Advanced Sniper Rifle. Jeffvn https://www.longrangeshootinghandbook.com/socom-chooses-300-norma-mag-asr/...

    ELR Central W R results .

Other than needing to move the non-shooter spectators back away from the firing point - at least 10 yards - so the competitors on the next relay have a place to form up prior to moving forward, the event went pretty smoothly. there were some coordination issues at teh very beginning between the...
