Rifle Scopes Advice on 3X magnifier for AR15

Interesting discussion, just what I was hoping for. I may be asking too much of a red dot to think that it can shoot targets reliably at distance -- the point wade2big makes about finding them really strikes home. And then there is the guessing about holdovers ShaoKahn points out. I like...

Rifle Scopes Advice on 3X magnifier for AR15

Am considering adding a 3X magnifier to an AR to complement a Trijicon MRO red dot. Are there features of magnifiers that you have found really make a difference in every day use? This is for competition, not Mil/LE use, if that matters; and for shooting out to around 400 yards. Want to...

Barrel life for JP 16 inch Wylde chamber

Any guesses how many rounds this thing will run before the groups start to spread out? It likes 55 gr ammunition, using Fiocchi right now. Shoots .75 MOA pretty reliably, occasionally tighter if I am paying attention. I realize it all depends on X, Y and Z, so asking the question out of...

gonna order a JP .308 or GAP

First world problem for sure. One question is why a .308, rather than, say, a 6.5 Creedmoor? Just askin', but the ballistics performance is so much better in that caliber than .308 it is worth asking. I own two JPs in the LRP-07 model line, both fantastic shooters and fit and finish beyond...

    Balancing ejection angle

Bingo. I was hoping a heavier spring, or buffer, might be sufficient to get the ejection angle where my OCD wants it, since it happens to be simpler to get at than the gas block key, given the configuration of the hand guard. As rxer311 points out, this is hardly a crisis, and the rifle shoots...

    Balancing ejection angle

It does have an adjustable gas block. But the gas block is adjusted for a different round, a hand load, and buried under the hand guard. I just didn't want to have to mess with it. Which led to what else I might try to adjust the ejection angle.

    Non-Reciprocating Side-Charging Uppers

I have JP side charging uppers on an LRP-07 for a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle and on a small frame for a .223. The video posted here is good to review for technique, although it isn't rocket science. My experience with the LRP-07 side charger is that if you are in prone position and need to cycle the...

    Balancing ejection angle

Shooting a JP 14 inch .223 Wylde upper with JP factory BCG, sitting on an Anvil Arms lower with a SpringCo Standard Power buffer spring, Fiocchi 55 gr factory rounds. Alternating between P-Mags and C-Products mags. Rifle shoots tight, groups more or less at .75 MOA at 100 yards when my...

Best COTS Ammo for 6.5 Creedmoore JP Semi-Auto 22" barrel

+ 1 on finding a commercial load your rifle likes, there is no predicting it. That said, I went on this hunt with essentially that same JP configuration, and tried the Eagle Eye 130 gr, Prime 130 gr, Hornady 140 gr ELD-M and Hornady 120 gr ELD-M. The Hornady 140 gr ELD-M shot best, .5-.75 MOA...

    Ruger Gunsite Scout .308

Thank you both, helpful. Friend has a 3.5-10X Leupold mounted on it, hasn't fired one shot yet, but good to have a starting point for the ammo.

    Ruger Gunsite Scout .308

A friend just bought one of these with an 18 inch barrel, otherwise stock configuration, with a Vortex 3.5-15X scope. Curious whether the forum has advice about commercial ammunition and bullet weight that shoots well in these rigs. And any guesses about the accuracy to expect given good shot...

    JP LRP-07 BCG sticking

Seems there is some interest in this given the number of views on the original post. Looks like the hammer pin broke, or one end broke, which put the hammer off center randomly resulting in the BCG binding from time to time. That likely also explains why pulling the trigger, which causes the...

    JP LRP-07 BCG sticking

Was shooting for the first time this afternoon a new JP upper in 6.5 Creedmoor, sitting on a JP LRP-07 lower. When I pulled the side charging handle back, the BCG would retreat out of battery as it should, all the way back, but on releasing the charging handle the BCG remained stuck in place...

Debugging a JP adjustable gas block

Yes, it is an HP bolt. This is a standard JP rig, I haven't modified it. I thought about it being overgassed but at this point can't turn the adjustment screw all the way in, it just floats in the block. JP has sent me a new adjustment screw and a locking screw, so I am going to clean the...

Well, that makes perfect sense. Thank you both.

Debugging a JP adjustable gas block

I have a JP LRP-07 in 6.5 Creedmoor with an adjustable gas block. The block has an adjustment screw that enters from the right side of the block looking at it from the breech end of the rifle; and another screw that approaches the adjustment screw from the top of the block, which is used to...

    Tuner/brake combinations

Interested whether anyone has experience with combination tuner/brakes on an AR. Example: http://www.bostromgunsmithing.com/Blog/Entry/9. Harrel tuners are common in .22lr bench rest, and seem to radically reduce group size. I am told they work by broadening the harmonic node in which...

    20" Bartlein CLE 1-7.7 AR15 Build

Can I rent that 8208XBR target and show it to my friends as mine LOL? Two questions; 1) what is the pull weight on the Geissele trigger? and 2) did you experiment with the tungsten weights on the JP SCS set up, or just go with the one tungsten weight? On that last question, I am curious...

Rifle Scopes Magnifier behind a Trijicon MRO

Considering adding a 4X (or some kind of X) magnifier behind a Trijicon MRO mounted on an AR-15. Not sure how to research this, other than to bang around the obvious vendor web sites and try to form an opinion. Is there anything specific I should be considering or trading off in terms of...
