old Mauser ser# 933, hidden treasure or junk?

I'm pretty sure it's an old 98 mauser probably made in that period between WWI and WWII, I have one very similar to that that is a GI bring home. When a town was liberated the GI's were allowed to bring home a trophy, the Germans left piles of confiscated guns. The european hunters in those...

Rifle Scopes How do YOU level your optic?

I install a us optics level on the rail, I draw a 48" line on a target at 100 yards and make it level or plumb then while making sure the rail level is dead nuts I turn the scope until the reticle aligns with the plumb line on the target. And if its a new scope I'll shoot three shot groups up...

Rifle Scopes Anyone have a new Bushnell XRS 4.5-30X FFP scope?

I just mounted mine last week on my competition rifle. Took off my NF F1. Initial impressions are very good. I plan on myself and a couple of friends with different glass getting together and doing side by side comparison to other glass, NF, SB, possibly a vortex and what ever else we can come...

    Neck tension consistency

Annealing is absolutely essential for consistent neck tension, of course the proper bushing. But consistency is what you are after, the bushing can only squeese the metal that's there and it has to be the same temper. I keep the brass together as a batch, load it the same number of times...

McMillan stock - brittle gelcoat layer?

Definitely not an expert but yes its brittle and no, you didn't have contact between the gel coat and the layer of fiberglass below. Mcmillan can probably do a repair patch, i'm surprised they haven't replied to you they are good people. I would ship it back with a letter, offer to pay repair...

    Priming new brass

You might try the RCBS hand tool, I think it is camed better so it goes in easier. I used the lee for years and some brass/primer combinations are tough. RCBS make a single feed tool and a multiple feed that has the tray on it.

Range Report Got my new kestrel need some input/help

Ok guys, I know I am reviving an old thread but I still struggle with how to set up my kestrel. I don't understand the instructions as it relates to my apps, I usually use bullet flight that doesn't have DA available or shooter that does. Do I set my reference altitude on my kestrel to zero or...

Value of Hathcock Autographed "White Feather" book by Chandler?

I bought one also when they were offered from precision shooting, they didn't offer any kind of certificate with the book. They may have one made up still if you were the original purchaser but I doubt it.

    Question for progressive pistol reloaders

550, add the case feeder, powder alarm is a waste of money, put a piece of piano wire down the primer tube to indicate when you are about out. Put a small inspection mirror over the case at the bullet station and look at the mirror before you set the bullet on it, you'll never miss a low powder...

Gunsmithing What is the secret to making a 243 barrel last

    6mm choice

I agree, the old reliable 243 is easy, but if your like me you'll have to rebarrel in 1500 rounds so you can change it up in a few months! I have friends that shoot the 6CM and the 6x47 and they shoot very well and are a little more efficient than my 243. But choices are good!

    Dillon XL 650

I have both a 550 and 650. I prefer the 550 for ease of set up and function and user control on rifles, the 650 will fly through handgun stuff though.
