Hunting & Fishing Minimum sized Elk cartridge

Last elk I killed with my 338 win mag was at 459 yards, blew the heart up she took 4 or 5 steps and fell over. If you can shoot the bigger rounds well the extra horse power doesn't hurt. Most of the time I hunt with a 280 Remington or a 30-06, 160gr or heavier with quality bullets. If my goal...

    Maggie’s Head shot funny

That was great! That's a pretty powerful sling shot. 20mm balls and they were moving quick. I really do feel bad about laughing at that guy but dang

Hunting & Fishing Elk Hunting with a Handgun 2013

Excellent! I have been chasing elk around the desert here in South West Wyoming for the passed couple days trying to stick one with an arrow, I have come close but not close enough to draw back. A big game handgun kill is on my list of things to accomplish. Great choice on the round and gun...

    Switch Barrel Rifle

Great info, I have been thinking about doing this for a while with my Times Precisions action.

Hunting & Fishing Is the Rem 700 R5 going to be terrible for hunting?

Try it for one season. If its to much pick up a light weight. Assuming you have a picatinny rail you could always put a smaller/lighter scope on it for hunting without to much trouble.

    Hunting & Fishing Pronghorn

That was a really fun and challenging hunt with the 1903, I limited myself to a 125 yard shot or closer since I was using cast bullets at roughly 30-30 velocity and I am a spot and stalk hunter. I have a M1 Garand and am going back and forth between the M1 and my 7-30 Waters contender for this...

    Hunting & Fishing Pronghorn

Here are a couple of mine and one of my brothers. We like to hunt the does, during season they seem to be more edgy than the bucks and make for a very fun hunt. Killed with my as issued 1903 Springfield same configuration it was when it left the factory in September of 1909, 60-65 yard shot...

    Hunting & Fishing Pronghorn

I only drew one antelope tag this year, just a doe in area 90 here in Wyoming. I'll probably use a pistol this year. I drew a couple desert elk tags though, pretty excited about that.

Hunting & Fishing First Hunting Rifle and need advice on caliber and models.

I have several hunting rifles but by favorite to carry is a Remington 700 Mountain rifle in 280 rem, very light and pretty accurate with 160gr Partitions. If I ever shoot the barrel out on it I will put a new one on chambered in 280 Ackley Improved.

Hunting & Fishing bullet selection help

Guys that I hunted with in Michigan used 30-30's with 170gr round nose bullets for black bears and I only remember following up one more than 50 yards, it was hit a little to far back. If your hunting from a tree chances are your shot is going to be close so your normal weight bullet is...

    6.8 spc

I currently only have two 6.8's. At one time I had four, two AR's, a Ruger bolt, and a TC contender. I'm down to one 18" AR and the Ruger Hawkeye, plus I have a 16" AR barrel in the safe waiting to be put on an upper and slapped on one of the lowers in the safe. I really have killed a couple...

Hunting & Fishing Concealed carry when hunting??

I open carry while in the field, mainly because if its cold out my clothing is bulky.

Sav 12 LRP DBM Long Range Precision 6.5?

Thinking about picking one up for a medium range target (800-1000) rifle and an antelope rifle for a retirement gift for my dad. My brother and I were going to build him a rifle but the LR Precision has what we were going to build anyways. If we go with the Savage we will have it dipped, and...

    Which 338 for build?

I have often thought about putting a long 338 win mag barrel on my 300 wsm action. In a longer barrel the win mag puts out some good numbers, maybe not Lapua numbers but for the powder consumed not bad. With reloader19 in my 24" 338 win mag I was able to hit 3000-3050 with a 225gr bullet...

    Rebarreling my .30-06

Depends where you are and on what is available locally, which really should determine the direction the OP goes. For me I can pick up 6mm Rem at 2 of the gun shops and one of the hardware stores in town for less than $35 a box, I don't because I load all my own but the ability to shoot factory...

    Rebarreling my .30-06

If you are referring to my post I was suggesting a 6mm Remington Ackley Improved....parent case 6mm Remington....factory ammo.

    Rebarreling my .30-06

25-06 would be a solid choice for everything from varmints to big deer, I love my 25-06. You could make it a 6mm Ackley Improved, also really like my 6mm AI, shoot factory 6mm Remington and when/if you get into handloading later on you will have already have fire formed brass.

Sidearms & Scatterguns any of you guys cast bullets?

I cast around 20,000 bullets every winter and have done everything from 22 to 58 caliber buckshot and 12 gauge slugs also. Even hunt with my own cast bullets in my rifles.
