Bottom metal for 223 bolt gun build

Does anyone make metal magazines for a 223? I have a chassis that uses the plastic AI mags, would like to switch to something smoother and that doesn't seem fragile / cheap. Any recommendations?

.257 Roberts AI or .25 creedmore?

I'm at the opposite point as some of the more practical posters here, I like cool and unique cartridges and a 257 Bob AI'd is very cool. Not likely to run into another one at the fire after the hunt. Might also look at 250 Savage, assuming you reload. At 300 yards most anything will work, so I'd...

AI AT Bolt Stuck 6.5 CM

What Criver600 said - I'd send it to Mile High service center. By "the case yielded" do you mean you have brass shards in the action? Yikes.

    Gunsmithing A good bedding job?

Appreciate the replies. I'm still learning in this game and am trying to isolate the non-shooter problems from the mix. When I miss I want to know I blew a wind call, didn't press the trigger correctly, etc, and not worry that my equipment failed and caused the miss. However, they both shoot...

    Gunsmithing A good bedding job?

How do I tell if I have a good, effective bedding job? What are the signs (other than the POA wandering) that it's time to redo it? A follow-up question, I have two older Surgeon actions (sequential serial numbers, so hopefully made about the same time). Both are in bedded Manners stocks. Would...

Rifle Scopes Spuhr binds parallax ?????

I could send you the SP-4002 that bound up my Tangent Theta, it's been sitting unused in a drawer after the mounting failure. The solution I was offered via phone call was to remove torque, but it bound at <15 in/lbs and I was reluctant to go lower. Not sourced from Mile High, by the way.

    6mm cartridges barrel life

Concur, also 6BRA (BR Ackley Improved) will get pretty close to Dasher performance with very easy fireforming, I've been able to form by just loading and shooting BR brass, no false shoulder, hydroforming, etc needed.

    Ear pro

I just went through this process as well. I had been using a set of Peltor Tactical Sports for the past 10-12 years, really liked them, but they finally died. I'm primarily a square range shooter and fire about 50 rounds per week, all prone, so cheek weld was a concern. I checked stats on...

Sidearms & Scatterguns OWB leather for 2.5" revolver

A cool revolver like that deserves nice leather. I'd take a look at El Paso Saddlery, they will custom make something for you that will be perfect.

    ear pro, electronic

Does this mean you are able to double up with Ottos and Sordin's without problem? I didn't think you could use two electronic ear protections together, nice to know if possible.

Any experience with Peltor ComTac VI?

Thanks for comments. I went ahead and bought the non-comm version last week, and agree with Miles' comments above, I'm happy with them.

Any experience with Peltor ComTac VI?

Need to replace an older set of Peltors. I see the Comtac VI appears to be available. I will not have any use for comms, but would pay the premium for the VI over the III (Defender versions of each) if the audio performance was better than the Comtac IIIs. I'm interested in sound quality...

    Target camera's

I'd go with an E target of some sort before I'd fool around with a camera

My manners needs an adjustable cheek price!

Manners might do it for you, they just retro-fitted an adjustable butt to my T2A. They turned it around fairly quickly, within 2 weeks, and did a great job, even cleaned up the paint where they had to cut the stock.

    Surgeon built rifles...years to watch?

I've got two pre-sale Surgeon actions and they are smoother than either of my AI's. I don't know anything about the ones made after the company was acquired but the original ones are top-notch.

Rifle Scopes SFP for long range shooting

One guy posted a great synposis on here a while ago, FFP is easier if you are using your reticle markings for holdoffs at different magnifications. SFP is easier if you are dialing corrections because your reticle always looks the same. I am generally a known distance / F class / low-speed...

Suppressors Baffle Strike SDN6 - how can 223 bullet strike a 308 can?

I just got an SDN-6 back from AAC after they repaired a second baffle strike. Each was from a different 223 / 556 - one a SCAR, one a LWRC. The suppressor is for a 7.62mm. How in the world am I getting baffle strikes with a 223? Both times I'm using factory ammunition with a 69 grain Sierrra...

Training Courses 2019 Precision Rifle Expo

I went last year, and enjoyed it a lot. After paying the $25 (last year amount) registration fee I got an email for signing up for classes, I think it was 2 classes per day, each maybe 1-2 hours, each which were all very interesting. Even got a class with the HMFIC from this place which was...

    Help with seating depth inconsistencies

I like chasing down these types of things as much as the next guy, but I think you will have a tough time seeing a 0.001-0.003 variation in BtO on the target. However, most of your issue here is probably variations on the bullet dimensions, so as stated above, you'll need to sort bullets to...
