Remember the Great .30-06 Debate 10 Years Ago?

Stumbled on this thread with interest as a fellow 30-06 shooter. I've got a trued Remi 700 with a Krieger 26" Heavy Varmint contour 1:12 twist that I use to push 175 SMKs out at 2940 FPS. I'm pretty happy with her, but didn't even conceive of pushing heavy / high BC bullets when I had it...

Rifle Scopes Optics for 1,000 yd shooting

I have the Bushnell HDMR 3.5-21 with the Horus H59 reticle sitting on my 6.5 Grendel. It's a great scope and definitely a top pick among others at its price point given the value of what it brings in terms of features and quality versus the cost. LonewolfUSMC posted a good review of the scope...

GrreatWhiteBuffalo, you have some of the same rifles I have (Marlin 336 in 30-30, and Daniel Defense DDM4V1). As for a LR rig a 308 is a good starter caliber with regards to availability of match ammo, barrel life, and ability to reach out to 1K yards, etc. If you reload your own ammo and want...

    S&W M&P 15-22 Review

I'll join the chorus of S&W 15-22 fans. For those that actually have 22LR ammo it makes a great training platform for a real AR15 and this thing is very acccurate and reliable for a 22 rifle.

    My new 6.5 Grendel

A few months ago I added my third long range precision rifle to the stable, for local match shooting at ranges upto 600 yards. Just getting photos posted up now. My other two are bolt actions (338LM, 30-06), this one is a semi-auto built on an AR-15 platform. The project took over 7 months in...

Rifle Scopes Optics for 1,000 yd shooting

Budget for many always plays a factor. Many good points have been made already regarding having the option to dial up magnification as needed so I won't belabor that point. One other consideration is the quality of the glass/optics. Bigger objective lens will let let more light in and high...

    Building 338 lapua help

Mudpig, you have a nice boom stick too! I'm actually getting a small LR group shoot together for August 24th over in Eastern WA. It'll be near the same area where the 2013 JC Steel Match was held. You're more than welcome to join if you have the weekend available.

    Building 338 lapua help

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with this rifle. I have a honey hole a couple hours north of where I live that allows me to go out a little past 1000 yards. Beyond that distance, I have to go to the dry side of the state on the other side of the pass. I actually have a road trip planned in about a...

Welcome to the Hide. I moved out of So Cal in the late 80's and never looked back. Everytime go visit friends and family I get to see first hand why I don't miss it. California used to be such a nice place to live.

    Newbie Here

Welcome the Hide. Yup a Remy 700 5R is good platform to start out with. What kinda glass did you put on it? If you already have a decent optic, first upgrades I did to mine was getting a nice Timney trigger and replaced the stock with a chassis system.

Gunsmithing Good smith for Marlin 336 project?

Contact Wild Call Customs or BlackOps Precision. About a year ago they were offering custom jobs on Marlin 336 rifles and even though I don't see the photos on the website anymore I'm sure they can hook you up.

    Movie Theater Red 2!!

Saw the movie with the wife. One of the few times each year we could agree on a movie to go to. We both enjoyed and it's worth the price of admission to be entertained. But I liked Red 1 more.

WTF... I mean WFT The Worlds Finest Trimmer.

I love these WFTs since I discovered them a little over a year ago. I now have 4 in my favorite bottleneck calibers and plan to pick up a 5th one when I take delivery a new custom rifle I have being built.
