Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

Sorry, Had a play with that website again today, and have to say that it's still pretty buggy. Because it doesn't support different units (like JBM) I'm changing it a few times between metric and imperial and it's giving strange outputs. Happy to go through it with you, but for now, not...

Bulk Ammo in .308 -- Price / Accuracy

Problem tipper, is the trade off with time. I don't want to spend hours reloading ammo for a semi auto that's going to trash my case and be used for 100 yard off hand drills or off hand hunting in bush. Special bolt rifle? Sure. Good semi? Sure. Long distance? Sure. Tactical drills at 50...

Bulk Ammo in .308 -- Price / Accuracy

Hi, Cheaper blasting, I'm using Sellier & Bellot 147gn FMJ. Not everything likes it though...

Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

Hey, Yeah, I reported this a while ago. The profile loader doesn't seem to transfer the Mil/MOA to/from the Kestrel. The loader only handles having one global setting. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

Hmmm, Few other issues: When moving between metric and Imperial, sometimes the conversions get out of whack, and you end up with crazy numbers. See this image: The temperature doesn't seem to be captured in the output. When moving between metric and Imperial, the bullet diameter...

Range Report Applied Ballistics Kestrel; Pro staff support thread

Hmmm, Just had a look at this - seems useful although being able to manipulate the units more easily on an individual field basis would be helpful (I need to work with all sorts of crazy mixtures of Imperial and Metric). But I just ran a quick check on the profile loader I have, and compared...

POLL - Most COMPLETE ballistics app

JBM Ballistics - it's just not portable :-) I have mostly used Ballistics AE - not sure it's the most "complete", but the best of a few I've tried (including KAC Bulletflight and some 'free' bounded ones from RWS, Swarovski, etc.). Not exactly intuitive to get up to figure out the best way to...

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

Sorry Unknown, We're all screaming the same message here... As we're all saying, check the thing is giving you somewhat correct readings and start shooting. Living where you are, there's a lot of other things you can get more wrong than pressure. In summary, if you are only interested in...

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

Hi - check out this site: National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Bremerton Ntnl Awos and this: AirNav: KPWT - Bremerton National Airport You'll see Bremerton National (I presume near you) was 30.38 at midnight on 3-4 Jan but 29.92 a few days ago - you'll see it vary more...

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

BTW, density altitude is simply a single-number representation of air density. Air density is always and only a function of temperature, pressure, and moisture content (that's it!) A ballistic calculator needs air density and so it calculates it from what you give it. A density altitude...

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

In the "barometer" screen, with the reference altitude set to zero, you are getting zero correction for altitude. The pressure shown with reference altitude set to zero is the station or absolute pressure (i.e. what it measures). Your station pressure is 29.52. That's what you want to use for...

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

No, Change the reference barometer to a value that makes your known altitude correct. But you really don't need to mess with this, just use station (or absolute) pressure and temperature and forget about altitude. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Kestrel's Barometric pressure, do you need to "true" it each day of use?

The phone has no pressure sensor. It tries to estimate it using altitude from the GPS. Or it may try to pull the corrected pressure and temp from a weather station (which can be wildly wrong-I frequently see them report uncorrected pressure as corrected). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Mikhail Kalashnikov passed away

To me, the weapon responsible for the death of most innocents (although we normally blame the user here and not the weapon) in modern history would be the Mongolian sword. Using the definition I was given in school, that "modern" history started in 1066. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Blaser Tactical 2 VS TRG-42

Hi again, No real difference in the chambers. My "tuned" PSS with a freshly cut chamber is within a thou or two of the Blaser factory chamber. In the end we set it up so we can use the same ammo for both. He uses 43.5 Varget with 175 HPMK. But my PSS can shoot marginal ammo quite a bit...

    Neck thickness .338 Lapua Magnum

Hi, I clean up my necks. Running standard TRG chamber. Loaded round is .364-.365 and resize with .363 bushing. From the math, this makes neck about 13-14 thou. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
