These images show how digital magnification in a Thermal degrades as zoom increases. If you really need long distance, a bigger lens is a better idea than relying on digi-zoom, IMO.
ETA - If you want a separate thread for thermal, create it and I will move them over there.
Like I said, folks need a solution, not a product. My solution was to pony up some more $$$ for a CNVD. I now have the capability I was looking for.
YMMV.
Agreed but folks need a solution and the replacement does not have to be a direct competitor. They could decide to forgo the clipon route and go with a dedicated sight such as a D760, M845, or the new FLIR RS series.
I wish no ill-will on anyone, but Business Schools such as Harvard and Wharton have studied and modeled the effects of a product being late to market to death. The results are not good. I worked in the computer industry and I remember man instances where a product was going to be late to market...
Eliminate the unscrupulous dealer and just go with the LEO buddy, and you still wind up with a grand total of 1 unit. There just aren't going to be that many units leaking out as they are so tightly controlled.
As I mentioned before, IMO the biggest risk is a counterfeit unit. Look at all the...

Back enough so vented gases that might leak out the back of the silencer do no impact the lens and so it does not show up on the day optic. Thus this varies with BBL length and Rail Length. Of course if it is on a piston gun you need to be aware of vented piston gas.
Texas has changed regs recently due to demand on many traditionally not hunted animals (they want their cut).
In Texas you can legally hunt all animals with Thermal or NV. Most can also be hunted with any legal firearm - rifle shotgun Machine Gun, RPG, silencer, etc. Some restrictions on game...
Old thread, but I have one of these units with the 35mm lens. It is awesome. I can see everything. Horses/Cows at thousands of yards, small birds in trees, Heck I can even see fresh dog shit, urine 100 yards away.
Some things I learned - Focus is very fine. Make sure you are using the focus...
I do not think so. It has its own camera. It overlays its own digital image with the thermal before sending it to the iPhone display. I was told it does not use iPhone camera. But it is new so maybe they got it wrong or I heard it wrong.
No. Show is too crowded to try it more than 25 feet. IMO this is a short range device. It overlays a digital image on the thermal image so it is questionable how good an image taken in complete darkness will be. It is priced at $350 so set your expectations accordingly.
If you are attending CES this week the FLIR booth is 20422 near the corner.
Thanks to SKYPUP as I never would have stopped by FLIR at CES, too busy with the geek booths.
The law folks are taking about is 922r, which loosely speaking prohibits making from imported parts firearms that cannot be imported. If the imported parts count is not more than 10, then the gun is GTG. The gun can clearly be threaded, as Texas Governor Rick Perry has done it:
