I meant to shoot this sooner, but just now got around to it. 50 yds with Lapua Midas+. First shot ("cold bore") went through the center of the target. Next 5 were slightly lower.

    not snipery but vintage

One other feature of both the Remington model 81's and the Winchester '07 WSL rifles are that they are both "takedown" designs. I think this made them attractive to both the crooks and the Lawmen back in the day. On the Remington 81, one screw to remove front handguard , which reveals a...

    not snipery but vintage

One thing is certain, shooting these old war horses is challenging when it comes to finding ammo. I also stock up on the .30 Remington ammo and components when I find them. Pre-pandemic, it was hard to find these items...post pandemic--impossible. I got several hundred rounds of .30 Rem and a...

I stock up with .351 ammo and components whenever and wherever I find them. Buffalo Arms, PCI, and Jamison have made .351 ammo in the past, but I haven't seen any since the pandemic hit. WEstern brand even turns up occasionally. You can make .351 brass from .357 Maximum brass, but you...

    not snipery but vintage

I've got two of the Remington model 81's, including a former FBI rifle. Both are .30 Remington caliber. Great rifles with an odd recoil impulse. This is the former FBI rifle The biggest tip off is that the FBI ordered their early model 81's with the Lyman 41 rear peep sight. Because...

    FBI Sniper Rifles

I ran across a picture of the old "sniper tower" at Quantico. The agent-trainee ran up three flights of stairs in the enclosed tower and took a firing position at a window using the Remington model 760 with the blue plastic training ammo. A plastic silhouette target would pop up randomly in...

    U.S.M.C Property 40X plus U.S property 513-T

That is a fine rifle. Are all the USMC M40X's the early ones, based on the 722 action? I've got a US marked 40-X, but it is the later one with the heavier barrel and the 700 action. It is a fine shooter.
