Time for a LH custom build

I'm not a big gas gun guy, but decided to have a 6.5 Grendal built late summer. The qualifier is that it is a left hand model across the board. In today's climate: * What should the expectation for build time to be? * Is there any companies you would recommend to do the build? I was told 3...

    Neck tension control

Send Whidden a couple fired cases and they will make you a die to whatever you want to spec it out to (.015 - .03 neck tension). John Whidden has won more big high power matches in the US in the last 10 years than anyone, and he uses a non-bushing FL die for sizing his brass. The only thing you...

    6BRA Dies

I will give my perspective coming from a different point than most here. I am a benchrest and F-class competitor. I turn necks on everything I shoot except big game hunting. You are not going to loose brass from sizing it if you use a quality full length bushing die, good lubrication practices...

    AMP

I am neither an engineer or metallurgist, so there is nothing scientific about how I confirm results. I use a strain gauge on an arbor press to check seating pressure in the reloading room. For me the proof happens on paper and readings from Labradar at the range. I shoot LR benchrest and...

    Best reloading equipment sites ...

You are not supposed to let that name out....if you are local, you can stop by and get primers yet!

    AMP

Not so, there was a definite improvement of consistent neck tension going from a flame to the AMP.

New Build Help. 284 Win or 280 Ackley Improved?

I should mention that I point and trim the meplates on the 180's, which helps raise the BC at bit.

New Build Help. 284 Win or 280 Ackley Improved?

Shooting Berger 180 hybrids in a 9 twist (Bartlein). I tried the 184's in that barrel, and it did not like them. If you are looking at either of the 183/184, I would be inclined to go with a 8.5 twist. The 8.75 twist barrel prior to my present tube shot the 183's just fine. I'm pretty good...

    Big Fucking Deal....its Gonna Snow

Used to look forward to the blizzards on the prairie in western Minnesota. Just a great excuse to get 20 people together in one house with a few 16 gallon kegs of beer and whatever else worked for a good time! Lived in Little Rock. AR. in the early 80's. That was some of the best entertainment I...

New Build Help. 284 Win or 280 Ackley Improved?

Good choice, especially out of a magazine fed action. I shot with a guy (f-class) that tried the 280AI for one season. He was trying to get that "next level" of velocity to help in misread wind calls, but ended up going back to the 284 after most of us kicked his ass all year... :p

6BR Pet load? (105 hybrid, cci 450, varget, Lapua brass)

There are too many variables in barrels, chambers, twist rates, freebore, throats, etc...to use any of our exact load data. The standard 30 grains of Varget with 105 hybrids and a quality primer will work in any 6BR I have shot. Use 30 grains of Varget and seat bullets .0005 off, .0010 off...

    Alpha 6BRA brass

Had to laugh about a group shot this afternoon while fire forming some new brass. 29 grains of Varget, 105 VLD Bergers and Fiocchi primers:

    Alpha 6BRA brass

You are correct to a point IMO. I used the "COW" method to do 500 pieces of brass 4 years ago when I first started using this chambering. That method gave me about 85% final form. What I was attempting to do back than was save barrel life for matches (I shoot BR and F-class). What I learned over...

    Alpha 6BRA brass

I am participating in 300 yard matches this winter that will let me fireform most of the brass before next year's competitions start.

    Alpha 6BRA brass

Yeah, I have 400 pieces of new lapua brass that was neck turned over the past couple weeks, so I won't be picking any of this up. If I was just getting started with the caliber, it would be worth a try to buy 100 and see how it compared.
