    TAC OPS / KMW Collaboration

Yup... a call and a PM for me. Gotta get a case headed Mike's way as well.

    Thoughts on this please

To some extent, the shooting community struggles to shed the mindset that shooting at long ranges means take a bullet with aerodynamics resembling a brick and just add SPEED, more SPEED to shoot far-er, gooder (see also: Weatherby, RUM). The .338 LM has an interesting design history... and...

    Thoughts on this please

Punching paper to 1000 yds is... damn near anything between .223 Rem and 7 PRC... and decidedly NOT .338 Lapua unless the only thing you hate more than money is yourself. Similarly, as often comes up with people that need a hunting gun, either keep using what you're already using or figure out...

    Tac Ops Rifles

Here I am with the looong barrels… 20” on my Delta, 21” (iirc) on the KM OPS that’s in the chute.

The rifle that surprised you.. what’s the one that was way better than you expected?

I’ve had a lot of rifles let me down… I’ve had a handful meet my expectations. I suppose too much time on the Hide and reading articles with cherry picked groups growing up probably ruined me. I will say that my Tac Ops had the highest expectation to meet, and did so. It’s one thing seeing and...

    TAC OPS / KMW Collaboration

I’m probably in the same boat. My first one was easy to memorize, so I know that off the top of my head. This one… not as easy.

    Why are Foundation stocks popular?

They are dense/heavy and have a unique feel in the hand. They are a logical choice for a game in which weight, the more weight the better, is your friend. They come ready to accept even more weight internally. The forend is a classic beavertail with a flat (like the Manners T2 GAP), and that's...

.223 rem vs 6.5 cr for first mid range rifle

I mean... THE answer for winning shooting matches at 300 yds is 6mm PPC, no? The 6 ARC is more or less the same thing in different clothing. The .223 Rem, .223 AI, or the new 22 ARC will all work. The 6 GT or 6 CM are options for bigger cases and more velocity. The 6 BR and family are nice...

Why the Controversey over Creedmoor 6.5?

It's appropriate to necro this on Halloween. Well done. Also, does everyone in Alabama qualify as Limey or just some? Do they get UK citizenship as well? Is Hornady British owned? So many questions...

    Rifle Tuning and Technology?

Indeed. The scope and rings effectively become a structural member of an action that is itself flexing due to torque/asymmetry. Much of the “normal” vibration/torque/moment coming from the recoil lug striking the bedding/stock/chassis.

Sidearms & Scatterguns I am in love!

SIG needs to hurry up and make me a P225 SAO with titanium frame . I'd settle for a 365XL with a curved trigger - or I can just keep shooting my Glock 48 and call it good. I've been a SIG shooter for a long time, and I appreciate their classic line... but I wish they'd be a little more...

    Rifle Tuning and Technology?

There's an entire chapter (or several) devoted to this in Rifle Accuracy Facts by: Dr. Harold Vaughn. If you haven't read it, you should start there. He went to great lengths to analyze and then eliminate vibration (or minimize it). You can get to the digital version of the book from the link...

Endlessly going back and forth on rifle choice

If you optimize for everything, you are optimized for nothing... and that may not be what you want when "90%" of your shooting is going to be done static on a flat range. That number is likely low, especially if you intend to practice. You don't get to 90% range unless you're planning to...

Recommend the most American made 30-06 for an elk hunt

@DeathBeforeDismount - why would I do that when I can just buy an already existing product? The fact that it's not made in U.S. is a bummer, but wouldn't stop me from owning a Winchester, Tikka, Bergara, Howa, Weatherby or something else entirely if that's what I wanted. I couldn't say what...

Recommend the most American made 30-06 for an elk hunt

@DeathBeforeDismount - my point in mentioning the M70 was that such a thing DID exist and could still if they were produced with decent barrels and still made stateside. I think it's a little ridiculous that the market seems to gap between "race to the bottom" and low volume, high end guns...

Recommend the most American made 30-06 for an elk hunt

That's the problem, isn't it? What do I do for a high-quality, traditional American made bolt gun if I don't want to go to a smith? What's my factory option that looks as good as a Super Grade and shoots/functions as well as a Tikka?

Recommend the most American made 30-06 for an elk hunt

I feel like the toughest part about this whole deal is that if you want a good American made classic hunting gun you need to find someone who's selling theirs... because they're just not made, or made here, anymore. When I think American classic, I think first of the M70 and second of the R700...

    Tac Ops Rifles

I fucking KNEW I should have had Mike do a Delta-66 when he did my Delta-51...

Rifle Scopes New Schmidt & Bender PM2 6-36x56

Is the consensus that the DTII MTC are the way to go on these? I think that’s what I’ve see from the group.
