Gunsmithing What are you guys using now days to clean and lube?

Boretech is alright but I find wipeout easier and more effective in use. If it’s hard carbon I use some clr.

    Gunsmithing Lathe 101 - (DFW, N. TX)

Go take old barrel stubs and practice learning to thread a muzzle. It’ll teach you the general aspects of measuring, turning, threading, facing and how to hit the emergency off switch real quick lol Then it’s just the reaming from there but you can learn 90% of it with uncle buck

    Seating force

I recommend brushing after you have done all the processing, I do it after it comes out of the tumbler the final time and I have chamfered case mouths. I can tell a difference still by hand if I don’t. It’s like it smears it around even or knocks down the high spots that vibratory rumbling alone...

    Seating force

You annealed, brush the necks. What are your measurements and how consistent are they? Is it the result of differences in neck thickness and concentricity?

    Powder compacting when seating bullets.

You compact it enough and it won’t compact anymore and you can’t hit your proper lengths. Actually start crushing powder and you make more sirface area which makes it burn faster. Also, sometimes it can push the bullet back out a bit depending on your neck tension. Nothing inherently bad by...

    Suppressors SiCo Scythe review

No. Look up the recoilx brake, it goes on the opposite end.

Not another gun wont shoot thread.

Take it apart, look for where pieces are sliding against each other, should have some rub marks if something is causing draggy ignition.

    308 brass over sized

That’s what you get with gunshow range pick up processed trash, pretty standard crap really. That’s why no one recommends it. It’s damn sure gonna fit the smallest chambers and it’s not their concern if it lasts any more than that.

School me on precision suppressor(s) vs. brake

Turn the turret all the way back down to 0. Then, unlock the single Allen screw on the side and use the inner slotted turret to adjust your zero. It’s there in the manual. https://vortexoptics.widen.net/view/pdf/o0fsrrqzni/VTX_M-00311-0_RZR_HD-G3_RS_P_PM_WEB.pdf?t.download=true&u=ymrkrm&x.share=t

School me on precision suppressor(s) vs. brake

What scope and how much upward elevation travel do you have available? Sounds like you hit the zero stop to me and just need to unlock/adjust downwards to open more elevation travel. It’s possible, I suppose, but I think it’s highly unlikely that a muzzle brake is causing 8+ mils of elevation...

School me on precision suppressor(s) vs. brake

Wait, you put the brake on and now you have a difference in your point of impact vs your point of aim… and you want to buy something to correct that? Why not just zero it instead?

TT primary or Timney 517 v2?

I’d see if there are any Labor Day sales, I don’t think they are all at list price everywhere like they currently are. I got a primary for a backup that was 120 just 4 months ago on Memorial Day or some similar holiday.

TT primary or Timney 517 v2?

If it’s your first trigger, both will be fine. Both are too heavy for my preference, add a bit more money and get an upgraded version. You should be able to find a special for what you quoted a primary price as. If it was a month ago and july4 sales were happening it would have the special for...

If no intention of swapping scopes, any downside to an action that's tapped for direct scope rings?

Provided it’s of sufficient quality so that the taps are in the right place and correctly in line, nothing wrong with it. Aka, my cousins savage axis is observably poorly tapped to the naked eye, his rigid mount rings have him tapped out on windage without a true 100yard zero and pinched the...

Solus or Origin for first custom build?

Origin. The solus is... fine, but its not better than the origin in anyway, equal in some, better in none. Customer service reports/experiences would push me to the origin all on its own.
