It just doesn't feel the same

There are still enough characters on here to make things lively. They like to group together and collectively shit on one various group, and then another etc... etc...

Why do people load so hot?

My pig load for 150gr bullets is 43.0, IMR-4064 in standard LC brass. It is starting to get a little spicy at that point, but I've got thousands of pieces and no worries if it lasts 2-3 reloads. 43.0 Varget under a 165gr NBT was my deer load for several years. I run 42.8 in LC LR brass under...

Why do people load so hot?

When I tested 20 random 5.56 LC cases many years ago, it was pretty consistent. It shot well too. I was happy about it because I may or may not have picked up a few thousand of them while I was running ranges for the boys. Stop crapping on my Arken scoped Salvage.

What scope to use for 100 yard groupings?

Highest magnification my scope has, as long as the mirage isn't too bad, then about 80%. In rifles I've swapped scopes on, I've seen no appreciable difference between 20 - 36 power when shooting groups at 100. It just takes a little more concentration on centering the reticle at 20 than it...

Why do people load so hot?

+1 Lake City 7.62 brass is thick. I'm up to the case neck with 43.0gr IMR-4064. Learned that the hard way after popping a couple primers right off the bat during load development. Lake City LR brass is just not good. I don't remember the H2O capacity, but my ES across 20 cases was over...

    Still contemplating a savage 10fp in 308.

A Savage 10FP is what I got to get me started in "precision rifle" shooting a couple of decades ago. They've been around a while. I bought a 110 Timberland in 6.5 CM a few years ago for my F-I-L. That stupid rifle shoots as well as anything 3x the price, but does have a .2 mil cold bore...

    Reduced Recoil?

    300 PRC boss.

    Reduced Recoil?

I suppose one could definitely end up that way, depending on reamer and perhaps brass thickness. Zero issue with my Manson reamer at .319. My loaded rounds come to .313. Fired cases measure .318.

    Reduced Recoil?

7-300 PRC and you only need a bushing. Can keep your dies.

    Reduced Recoil?

Muzzle brake + weight. Those are the most effective means that I know of to reduce recoil. Otherwise, by the time you've neutered the 300 PRC to get to your .308 and .30-06 recoil levels... you might as well be shooting a .308 or .30-06. I think that one of the big selling points of a .30...

This might make for an interesting discussion... I want to talk about minor league hockey jersey's and their prices.

It was like that for the Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) hockey team. $300 for an "authentic" jersey last year at a game I went to. I didn't even go to the souvenir shop to look at them, I just heard the announcer claiming the "great deal" with the word "only" right before the $300 price tag. Somebody...

    EPA rolling back regs?

Ugh, my latest Kubota M5-111 requires DEF. Would be nice when I have to buy another one in another decade if it didn't require DEF. ^ However, I know better and we are only one administration away from everything going back to the way it was.

Why do people load so hot?

@XP1K Those old Speer manuals were HOT. :D Dad used to just look at whatever was max, and load that. I've had to add cylinder and yoke endshake bearings to two of his old S&W revolvers because he shot them loose in only about 3K rounds. I'm still sitting on a ton of his old 240gr, .44 Mag...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns Handguns...show 'em

My church carry pistol, a little P-01. This is an example of a gun that fits me so well that I can shoot it as good as a $4K 1911. There are few *for me* where accuracy is natural, but this one is it. I've added a CGW spring kit, upgraded the two crucial pins, replaced the guide rod with a...

Why do people load so hot?

While much load data is watered down, some isn't. A couple of Alliant's maxes are pretty damn destructive on brass. I never thought I'd toast Lake City 5.56 brass on the 3rd load...but here I am. One is also assuming that the loads posted by forum members on various sites are true. I would...

For Everyone Who Believes In Crime Statistics

I worked alongside one of the lightest-skinned black Marines in DC. He was also one of the most militant. We actually got along (he made fun of every other race constantly), but sometimes we had to work graveyard shifts together. Then, we'd have long-dragged out debates about most of the...

    7mm Backcountry 195gr Berger

I think N570 (or one of the unobtanium RL powders) is the ticket as well if you're chasing max velocity. That would be my first powder recommendation to a guy following my footsteps, or going to a 28 Noser/Sherman. I got an unopened 8lb keg of N568 for a steal (same for a 500ct box of 195s)...
